  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I was watching Bill O'Rielly last night on FOX and he really got me fired up to do something about it. So I thought I would share with you the letter I wrote to my local news paper.

Dear Editor:

It’s very simple. What day is December 25th? Why do many people have off from work? Why is the Post Office closed? It’s Christmas! Even the Federal government recognizes the day that reads “Christmas” on most calendars.

Is Christmas soon to be outlawed? My goodness! The cashiers at Walmart and Sears can’t wish their customers a “Merry Christmas”?! The tellers in the mall are forbidden to say “Christmas” as though it were a four letter word, of course, unless I wish them a happy Christmas first.

Never mind the employees. You’re not going to see any signs proclaiming what December 25th really is. No. It’s merely a holiday.

Does it matter that eighty five percent of Americans claim to be Christian? For the fifteen percent that are not, why not put up signs acknowledging their holidays as well but don’t ignore the fact that the majority of the country does celebrate December 25th as being Christmas. Whatever happened to “freedom of religion?” Is religion now unwelcome in the public square? Why are people who supposedly celebrate diversity so opposed to diversity? Why do I, as a Christian feel snubbed in this season that is celebrated world wide?

Christmas… maybe folks have just forgotten what the word means: Christ – mass, the celebration of Christ.

Well I for one will continue to proudly wish the cashiers, the tellers, the strangers on the street a “Merry Christmas,” even if they are of a different religious persuasion. Why? Because that’s what the day really is.

I wonder if the Quick Stop on Route 32 will light their road side sign up this year, “Happy Birthday Jesus?” I’m going to make it a point to visit the store and encourage them to do so. Bravo to all the business that haven’t caved in to the secularists!

Right here in America political correctness is sweeping away what is truly meant to be a holy-day not a mere holiday. We have all been invited to His birthday but the Person to be honored hasn’t been acknowledged. He has been forgotten like last years unwanted Christmas presents.

I just recently heard a lady in church tell that Wal-Mart, K-Mart and Target store employees are not allowed to say Merry Christmas. Yes,if that isn't another sign of Christian persecution in America, then I don't know what you would call it. If we continue to allow things like this,it will soon be worse than any American Christian could imagine, here.

We should all write "Letters To The Editor" Of our newspapers and complain about this.

my heart is saddened to think that people are not allowed to wish others a merry Christmas. But I wonder how many Christians work for these stores, and are willing to make a stand for Jesus and defie the wish's of their employer's, and go ahead and wish other's a merry Christmas inspite of the consiquencise's.

Mark 8; 38....If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his Father's glory with the holy angels.

As we enter the Christmas season my prayer is that all will know the blessing and joy of our Saviour, as we celebrate His Salvation plan.
kisstheson, God bless you.
Love Paul:hug:

Thanks kisstheson for your action!
The current climate about Christmas brings to mind the quote:

The only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing!

Bless you for taking action. Inspires me to do the same here!

I'm with you in that I am so tired of more and more chains being put on us~~peoples actuall constitutional rights being violated~~free speech~~store chains bullying in the name of the almighty buck.
Personally~~I think us Christians should let all those people have Dec 25 and we claim the true time of Christs birth for us to celebrate~~hit retail owners where it hurts and not shop for Dec 25~~
Not sure what we would call the actual time of Christ birth for us Christians to celebrate...but we as Christians need to take more of a stand on things a live the fact that we are set apart from the world.

Well the secular world is already trying to call it a Holiday tree, I am sue if Christians bowed out for a couple years they may not use the term Christmas anymore and we could still use that. Thought I totally feel where you are coming form I think we would be a better witness to the world by sticking with current date and name.

I was in a grocery store recently and handed a tract I had made to a man behind me at the check-out stand. He said that this was okay, but that in some stores you can't say "Merry Christmas."

So, I said to him, "yes I can. Merry Christmas....Is it okay to say 'repent'?" The lady in front of me laughed.

Yeah, let's forget merry Christmas. Let's change it to "repent sinner!!"

That's what John the Baptist would have done. We don't need to fight with the world for our rights. We just need to be different.

Since I heard that Target was one of those stores where the words "Merry Christmas" was not allowed, I called them. The lady answered, "Happy Holidays," so I said "and Merry Christmas to you, too." She said, "Thank you!"

We do have to watch our attitudes. Jesus forgave them all, while even on the cross where they put Him.

Well I personally still say it. I say Happy Holidays most of the time. When I was at work last year I said both. I was a little bit afraid but I did it. I should not be forced to keep what is real to me hidden. This country is about freedom and I should be aloud to rejoice in my beliefs out loud if I feel like it. If i had lost my job oh well. This kind of gives me a thought that maybe it is time for something amazing to happen with Jesus. I mean America is really serious about this whole thing. America was a country of Christianity and now all of a sudden they decide to focus much more on outsiders (in every situation) than their own people.

Lets never forget that Jesus went through situations like this and he did not let it hurt his spirit. Lets not let this hurt our spirits. Lets not worry about it because the Lord will always overcome.

I always have stuff like this happen at my house. When the Lord is spoken about in my house people start to act offended.. and then turn around and get angry with me or anyone who may be a Christian and I sometime cry because I feel like I did a bad thing . I am a new close christian .. I have been a believer my whole life but just got close 2 years ago. So I am still very very sensitive. I try remind myself most of the time in situations like this to never respond with hate, and to be wise by keeping my mouth shut and instead praying for them because they do not know the love that they are missing.

How could someone hate such an amazing man, is beyond me.

Goodnight everyone!!! and have a MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!! :) and of course a HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
