  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It seems to me all you've done is recreate Judaism and added Christ to it, as an aside.
That makes sense as don't they view themselves as the "new israel/jews" today. I could be wrong.

Do you not realize that this same Church under then Pope Damasus I decided which books go into the New Testament? If you do not believe what the Church teaches, then how can you know that they did not leave out books that should be in there, or include books that should not be in there? By accepting your New Testament, you have accepted the authority of the Church that canonized it: The Catholic Church.

Quite a conundrum, eh? :)

It is ironic that Sola (or Solo) Scriptura people say so many negative things about the RCC and yet they use the books that a Pope and the Magesterium decided upon.

Think about how so many say all they need is the Bible and that the New Testament is all they really need to know. Yet so many of these people will claim in the same breath that the RCC is the harlot of babylon or the Pope is the antichrist. All the while they worship God with the 27 books chosen by this same church and it's Pope.

Sounds crazy huh?

But then we move on to the many errors that came from Protestanism.

Greetings. Perhaps that is the Pope and his Denomination's fault as I have not see the RCs explain that Queen in Revelation. :)

It has been explained previously. There is a lot of good theology for Revelation.

The Queen is the New Israel or Mary the mother of God. I believe both views are acceptable since both views are logical.

Are you sure you want me to quote you on that?

Revelation 12:1 And Sign, great was seen in the heaven a Woman having been about-cast/peri-beblhmenh <4016> (5772) the sun and the moon underneath of the feet of her

Reve 17:4 And the Woman was having been about-cast/peri-beblhmenh <4016> (5772) purple and scarlet and having been gilded to gold and stone, precious, and pearls, having drinkcup, golden, in the hand of her being replete/brimming of abominations and the uncleannesses of the prostitution of her

I said specifically the Queen in Revelation 18 not the Woman in Reve 12 ;)

Reve 17:4 And the Woman was having been about-cast/peri-beblhmenh <4016> (5772) purple and scarlet and having been gilded to gold and stone, precious, and pearls, having drinkcup, golden, in the hand of her being replete/brimming of abominations and the uncleannesses of the prostitution of her

Revelation 18:7 As much as she glorifies herself and indulges, be giving to Her tormenting and mourning. That in Her heart she is saying 'I am sitting a Queen and Widow not I am and mourning not I shall be seeing'.

My bad...

the first post I did not see mention of a chapter and the second had both 12 and 17.

Of course there is a great explanation for 17 as well. Let me get it... I will be right back. ;)

Here we go LLoJ;

From: http://www.catholic.com/library/Hunting_the_Whore_of_Babylon.asp
Hunting the harlot of Babylon

Some anti-Catholics claim the Catholic Church is the harlot of Babylon of Revelation 17 and 18. Dave Hunt, in his 1994 book, A Woman Rides the Beast, presents nine arguments to try to prove this. His claims are a useful summary of those commonly used by Fundamentalists, and an examination of them shows why they don’t work.

LLoJ here is the first point it addresses in these very anticatholic remarks.

#1: Seven Hills

Hunt argues that the harlot "is a city built on seven hills," which he identifies as the seven hills of ancient Rome. This argument is based on Revelation 17:9, which states that the woman sits on seven mountains.

The Greek word in this passage is horos. Of the sixty-five occurrences of this word in the New Testament, only three are rendered "hill" by the King James Version. The remaining sixty-two are translated as "mountain" or "mount." Modern Bibles have similar ratios. If the passage states that the harlot sits on "seven mountains," it could refer to anything. Mountains are common biblical symbols, often symbolizing whole kingdoms (cf. Ps. 68:15; Dan. 2:35; Amos 4:1, 6:1; Obad. 8–21). The harlot’s seven mountains might be seven kingdoms she reigns over, or seven kingdoms with which she has something in common.

The number seven may be symbolic also, for it often represents completeness in the Bible. If so, the seven mountains might signify that the harlot reigns over all earth’s kingdoms.

Even if we accept that the word horos should be translated literally as "hill" in this passage, it still does not narrow us down to Rome. Other cities are known for having been built on seven hills as well.

Even if we grant that the reference is to Rome, which Rome are we talking about—pagan Rome or Christian Rome? As we will see, ancient, pagan Rome fits all of Hunt’s criteria as well, or better, than Rome during the Christian centuries.

Now bring in the distinction between Rome and Vatican City—the city where the Catholic Church is headquartered—and Hunt’s claim becomes less plausible. Vatican City is not built on seven hills, but only one: Vatican Hill, which is not one of the seven upon which ancient Rome was built. Those hills are on the east side of the Tiber river; Vatican Hill is on the west.

This thread is good for dealing with yet another Protestant error.

I do not wish to jump to different threads that I am not presently active in. Thanks. :)
:D Just a protestant error? I heard a RC once say it was Pagan Rome as that Woman/Queen:p

That sounds like one plausible explanation.

But the dribble coming from Dave Hunt and his fictitious and loosely put together theology is just that, fiction (at best). As much can be claimed about the Divinci Code.

I have never read one endtime book but, I have heard about them on the Eschatology board a lot. Another reason to be SOLO SRIPTURA :D

I can understand the fear of receiving a false teaching and so sticking to the bible alone. That is because I was not Catholic for 30 years of my life. I know the world is full with people that lie, cheat and steal. So I also know that some men pose as good men in churches and they lie, cheat and steal.

But to be Solo Scriptura or Sola Scriptura cannot compare with the great joy one finds in knowing that the teachings of their church are uncorrupted and protected by God as the Paraclete. See, I know this becasue I am Catholic. Though it is ironic that "fallen" Catholics never realized this truth. They were born into Catholicism where I was converted and That is what is ironic.

... but this is where I am, and yet He is still with me... so here I stay - it makes it truely easy to say my one and only authority is Yeshua and His father.
And that's awesome to say.

I am so happy you have such a close relationship with our Lord, may the Lord keep you close to Him, may you walk with Him all the days of your life.

I like being wrapped up in my Church, it is like a boat that God has put here to protect us from the changing waters of this World
Glad that you're where you feel protected.

I agree with Elsan everyone is in a place God put them that doesn't mean its always the same place.

The problem with that is that Jesus organized a Church. Christ’s Church is hierarchical. He chose apostles, made Peter the leader, and gave them authorities that all the other disciples did not have.

Later, in the book of Acts, the hierarchy develops further. The apostles appoint Deacons (greek - diakonos ), Priests (greek - presbyteros ), and Bishops (greek - episkopos), and each have different duties. It is the same today in the Catholic Church. And that is Biblical. The Biblical Church is organized. To reject an organized Church is to reject the Biblical Church
What ARE you going on about Katholikos? :p
Yes He did found a church, a people... and
He set in place leaders to equip the saints,
which is us. Why equp us? So we would be
equipped to go out and carry Him to the world.
As Christ is in the world so are we.

But He didnt come to set up an organization,
a religious "system"; in fact.. He pulled down
that religious system, telling the religious
leaders that they were too wrapped up in
their own business rather than His, but
in harsher terms naturally. He really did
liberate His people.

Do you not realize that this same Church under then Pope Damasus I decided which books go into the New Testament? If you do not believe what the Church teaches, then how can you know that they did not leave out books that should be in there, or include books that should not be in there?
Actually, they didnt 'choose' the books but rather put their seal of
approval so to speak, on the books that were already accepted.

By accepting your New Testament, you have accepted the authority of the Church that canonized it: The Catholic Church.
So by accepting the OT, who's authority do I accept?
Same as the NT, God's... silly.

Quite a conundrum, eh?
Not really, but I can appreciate your zealousness for your church.
Hope you can appreciate mine for HIS church, which includes
those who are His, no matter which building or group they worship
with on Sunday.

God used the children of Israel for both the OT and NT to share his Word. One was delivered by Moses and the other by Jesus. Cool huh?
