• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Proof???!!!!!

my point is that carey says that humans could have lived to be hundreds of years old thousands of years ago. Im trying to demonstrate that this is impossible as modern sanitation and modern medicine came about only within the last 125 years.
People back then didn't supposedly live longer due to their top-notch medical and sanitation technology, but rather because punishment for original sin hadn't fully kicked in yet. I think you're on the wrong track.

That is the most pathetic cop-out ever. And I've seen AV1611VET's 'finale' posts.

Yes virually every Amish personn on earth and millions of people in 3rd world countries are alive and have never used modern medicine.

My Dad was born without modern medicine.

HA! I wonder what your Dad would have done were he to be born and raised in tropical Africa (like I was) and get away with it (myriads of disease bearing germs, parasites, etc). I am alive today because of modern medicines. The rest of the poor sods who cannot afford modern medicines are lucky to reach age five. The mortality rate is astounding.

So before you go blasting at modern medicine; take a trip to Africa and go tell the parents of the ones who have sick children and cannot afford medicines that they are better of without them.

Truly being a couch potato critic is just too much!

 :D that error bounds for the age estimates do not exceed 2.5 years. Sex differences, intra-individual correlations and the effects of periodontal disease were studied. None of these indicators had a quantitative effect on the number of TCA bands when
the ( proposed ) methodological standard was followed.

You missed that bit in your comments.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say you're wrong here. What caused the difference in life expectancy between the middle ages and, say, the early 20th century? Diet wasn't getting much better since we still didn't have fridges, but hot darnit, penicillin was working nicely.

OK  its a wonder there are sooooo many people still around before Good OLD new medicine...LOL

And without new medicine, they would probably be dead - of infection, perhaps, or cancer. Anything could have got 'em. You've provided not one iota of evidence that their lifespan - or anyone's - is down to diet in the main. Yet we know that penicillin saves lives, same for cancer therapy, vaccinations and so on. Polio kills, polio vaccine prevents polio, ergo polio vaccine saves lives. QED. It's not difficult to understand this evidence, Carey.

I don't think it is impossible. Not that I am a literalist, but if they somehow had some supplement of telomerase, (or didn't stop producing it) which could keep the ends of the dna strands from fraying, their lifespans could have been significantly longer... although there are other things that may have to be accounted for too I suppose.

They might have significantly more time to enjoy their new existence as a 500 pound walking tumor, yes. Telomerase is missing from somatic cells for a reason.
