They have been told that the moon is 385,000 kms away and they check this themselves. Simple maths. Simple observations. Schoolkids can do this. Here's two ways that you can do it: Do-It-Yourself Guide to Measuring the Moon's Distance - Universe Today. Universities as I noted use their obervatories to teach students how to do it.
And the ancient Greeks weren't told how far away the moon was but they worked it out themselves. In 400BC for heaven's sake! Who told them to keep it a secret and why?
And they're all in on a conspriracy to deceive you. So all of the tens of thousands of students, schoolkids and amateur astronomers across the world have been contacted by...someone...and told to keep the real distance a secret.
Who contacted them and why?
That is a nice little system, kinda like a paint by numbers. Give them all the numbers and say go check this for yourself.
Why do they not use the triangulation.
