Proof that the NIV is unsound doctine

When people bring up "<insert version> is better then <insert version>!" I just remind them all the popular versions we read (at least in the US) are unsound given they aren't the original scripts language(s). Example.

English:
Hi my name is John. I like to build expensive new houses on hills. I also enjoy eating meat and drinking fresh water. What's is your name?

English translated to Arabic:
marhabaan aismi jwn. 'uhiba bina' manazil jadidat bahizat althaman fi altalalu. 'ana 'astamtae 'aydaan bitanawul alluhum washirb almiah aleadhaba. ma asmk?

Arabic to Spanish (edit):
Hola mi nombre es John Awhiba construye casas nuevas en estos octavos en las colinas. También me gusta comer a Dios y beber agua disuelta. ¿como te llamas?

Chinese to Norwegian:

See how much things change? Many languages don't have equalized words and can end up translating poorly. Especially after being done multiple times. Am I saying the bible is all unsound? No. I am saying we can't claim any english version is 100% a perfect translation. Not even KJV.

What sound doctrine is he not enduring? Telling the congregation to be ready since we don't know when Jesus is coming back seems pretty sound to me.

Also not sure how using the NIV equates to someone not having sound doctrine. I tend to think that it is a problem with a person who doesn't follow sound doctrine, not a version of the Bible. After all, the passage you shared is talking about people, not Bibles.

The stone the builders rejected has become The Capstone;

Gee, I wonder who influenced the translation of that verse.

Now here's the way it's Supposed to read :

The stone which the builders rejected Has become The Chief Cornerstone.

Well, to their credit, it is now "cornerstone" in the NIV, Psalms 118:22, though I never read it. But I did find two current translations that still have the error of capstone and that is one, Tree of Life Version, TLV The Messianic Jewish Family Bible Society, and two, TPT The Passion Translation which says: "The very stone the masons rejected as flawed has turned out to be the most important capstone of the arch, holding up the very house of God."

When I am in doubt or questioning, I always refer to Young's Literal Translation that says, " A stone the builders refused Hath become head of a corner."

After scripture reading from the niv the preacher went up on stage holding an niv bible while i was holding fast my 1769 kjv bible.
I had already pointed out the unsound verses of the niv to the eldership and deacons many times and had seen more than a few preachers that used niv bibles that were turned unto speaking fables.

Are you Ready is the name of the sermon.

The Winnie the poo take was quite fun and enlightening too. Winnie does ask his friend what day it is. His friend does reply that it’s today. Winnie does reply very good that’s the day I enjoy most. I guess the priest is implying that is how we should prepare every new day with the Lord. I’m sure Winnie the poo done no wrong. : ) The sermon was most enjoyable . As to the bible translation used. Some different than mine but I did not hear it being used for any bad doctrinal purposes for I did understand.

Translations are always sketchy. Ever since the scriptures were first translated from Greek into the vulgate, and later everything else, there have been rapid shifts in theological mindsets of individual churches.

This is why I believe it is beneficial to see how the Greeks themselves interpret certain passages. It is also a reason I believe preserving the "traditions" so many people hate so much is important--because it maintains a cultural context for much of what is being said in the first place. It's the same reason Arabs don't think the Quran in English doesn't carry the same meaning as in Arabic.

My thoughts exactly. Anyone who speaks multiple language or had Spanish or French in high school knows that translating from one language to the next isn’t always perfect. So those people that claim the KJV only and make it seem like God mandated then I guess people that speak Spanish, French, German, etc aren’t getting his word in the best form.

Yes you can review diff Bible versions. I have two "Layman's Parallel Bible"s which lay out four versions side-by-side on the two page spread. Both have different versions to compare. I had the first since I was saved in 75 and the other I got at a yard sale.

I have one version which I pull out whenever the versions I have just seem to differ too much or an idea is unclear. It is the Amplified. It can REALLY not help clear things up to a finite or absolute detailed understanding sometimes but it does really help arriving at context. I believe that it throws at you all of the possible Hebrew or Greek connotations or meanings into each verse with inclusive phraseology. For me, it more helpful than not. But I don't need to use it much any more from my age having allowed me to gain such understandings from my teachers and mentors.

I would suggest that any one desiring to REALLY be able to use their "SWORD" well and become intimately familiar with it, especially in regards to deriving context, that you get your version in the Thompson's Chain Reference form and if your version is not published in the chain reference get one any way in a version you can tolerate and have it at the side. This chain reference catalogs a chain of verses from beginning to end of Bible relative to many topics which arise as you read and lists these relative verses in the side margin and totally in the index of topics near the rear of the Bible. If you want to do a topical study you can go straight to the topical index to find a listing of verses from many books in the Bible to help one arrive at a more wholesome understanding of what God is saying.There is also a small concordance and a large Archaeological Supplement, Origin and Growth of the English Bible section, Character Studies, Prophecy Studies, and more; oh yeah, a lot of maps, too. I have a 1917 edition my Grandfather, who born in the 1890s & was a minister his whole life, had in the KJV which I don't use and the one I use, a 1984 edition in the NIV. There were two previous editions, 1973 and 1978, of the NIV, that is.
