• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Creationist: If abiogenesis is true, then you should be able to show in a lab that amino acids can emerge from simple chemicals through abiotic processes.

Scientist: That's exactly what we did.

Creationist: Ok, what I said before doesn't count anymore.

...and, if all else fails, shout..."Thalidomide...!" over and over........you never know, it might derail the thread in which you are badly failing......

Really? This surprises me, as those kinds of proteins that cause Alzeheimer's are a bit on the resilient side for being useful in life processes. Proteins that organic life uses normally can be easily broken apart and reformed into different configurations as the cell needs. These things are very rigid.
I think they argue that these things got the ball rolling before better enzymes came along. They played a part in breaking down other organic compounds?

But I am guessing here.

Another problem associated with an understanding of a natural origin of life is the existence of enzymes.

Abiogenesis really requires a molecule arise naturally, that can self-replicate, and that can do interesting things (such as behaving like an enzyme). Proteins are, AFAIK, unlikely to be it. RNA is a better candidate, but still very unsatisfactory.

It hurts these guys to say YES, doesn't it?

Clearly not half as much as the possibility of abiogenesis being a godless process hurts you, otherwise you wouldn't have felt the need to resort to your nuclear option of screaming thalidomide. Someone else mentioned your anguish, I'd call your posts in this thread more a shriek of pain.

I don't understand. Is an argument about about birth defects and human folly, or something?

You have to know AV to understand (the guy with the MAD cartoon character for his avatar). He often brings it up in unrelated debates.
