We have time to squabble about things like this. Christians in other places who are facing harder trials are focusing on other matters. The disagreements come back to sin.
If the well-dressed are trying to belittle others through their clothing that’s sinful.
If the smartly dressed is filled with disdain over the casually dressed congregants that’s sinful.
If the casually dressed is making snide remarks in his mind about people in other attire that’s sinful.
If the poorly dressed is griping about others who have more than he does that’s sinful.
The heart is deceitful. If we entered with our mind on God we wouldn’t fall for Satan’s ploys. All these musings distract us from Him and the message being shared.
Cast them down and turn your mind elsewhere.
I have trouble remembering what people wore. ah, but vaguely I do remember that an associate pastor just wore a leather biker jacket though, cause I just saw him up front signing a blues style version of People Get Ready this last Sunday. lol Kinda fun.
Why this dress issue even matters even just a bit past the simple basic thing about modest dress: --> because in too many churches in America, some of Christ's sheep have been alienated from that church, and sometimes any church at all (for now, even lost, for now), from being judged (wrongly) by members for some truly trivial dress thing.
They felt the not-love, the condemning judging, and they left.
It's heavy stuff, and so important to change.
Ok....back to the only kind of thing that can help, the gospel.
Here's that song he wore the leather jacket for:
