  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Well one of the things my Dad did right was put my sister in charge, years ago. My brother and I used to be real close, he's a truck driver, and he used to call me and we would talk hours on the phone to help him pass the time. My Mom has a granddaughter near her and for awhile we were depending on her to do a lot of things. Then my sis said my brother and I would have to do more, so we made arrangements to split the time.My brother had to take Mom to the doctor and of course she rebelled and was made at him and said things she doesn't really mean it was her dementia talking. Well he hollered at her and wrote me a terrible email about Mom. I sent it to my sister(but what I didn't know when I did that it get sent back to him, so he knew I sent it to sis) For awhile I felt bad I broke his confidence but then the more I thought about all the old things he brought up(things that should have been settled when he was young)and all the terrible things he said I said no!!! He was wrong! I don't want him in my life any more! At least not until Mom's gone. All of our energy is going to help Mom make this last walk as painless and with as much dignity as possible. So we have had no contact since them He does talk with my sis, who he has just upset a couple of days ago, but bless her heart she still tries to deal with him. I know when all is said and done he will someday wish he had done differently, maybe, maybe not, Lord have mercy on his soul,Yes he claims to be a strong Christian
Bless

My sister has come from Las Vegas to see how Mom is doing. My sister is here because she is actually the executor of everything(money, house etc.)
Hi Bonnie ,

Well, I shared my concerns for your *mom's choices* before, but
this sounds like you're just really giving her a couple extra wonderful hands. :) It's nice when family works together, as a team.

We have started Meals of Wheels, not only for the food but as a way for someone to come to the house and make sure all is ok.

Thurs. we will be starting the "Lend a Friend" program. These people come in and do a little housework, visit, run errands, and other light things. They are there about 2hrs 3xweek. The second program was put in place because she will no longer have use of the car and we didn't want her to panic and think there was no way to get out and get things and also company for her.
That's great; you're doing well :) thoughtfully keeping her at home, in familiar surroundings she most likely appreciates this - yes?

Our brother is against all of this, and he claims to be a
Christian and listening to the Lord and feels we are trying to get Mom out of the house before she needs to leave.
Course, we're not privy to conversations that may have been shared, to 'force mom's hands'. ~ But from this post here, that's not what I'm reading.
It sure sound like you're just simply supporting her, as best you can.

What other options does your brother think are better - having mom live with his family?? ~ that would be *ideal* and is this something Mom wants too? - or does she wanna live alone?

Thank you all for your prayers, and
please keep us on your lists, now that we have a family battle going on it is getting harder,
pray that the LORD's will will be done and we listen to Him
Thank you all
Bless
B
Bless you  Bonnie. It sounds like you're doing fine; and yes I'll  pray.

Annie

My Mom wants to live in her own home as long as possible. Her doctor has said no to this but we are giving it a try. I posted the problem with my brother in the chit chat thread and I don't really want to get into it again. My sister and I are being led by the Lord and by Mom, who is a very strong Christian and is a very strong prayer warrior. NOTHING about her love for the Lord has been marred by the dementia, but we still have to make sure she is safe. Please still pray for guidance.
Bless

Hey Bonnie,

I'm almost afraid to post to you anymore :sigh: as I never know how you'll *receive* it.
But I am pretty sure,
that just previously I wrote my positive  SUPPORT  of How you're handling this.

Also M.D.s are NOT (and I repeat) "god" NOT. (They managed to kill 6 of my relatives ,
aside almost me & my  daughter.)

Jesus Christ *is* God. Annie

Annie never be fearful of posting to me, if it is told in truth and out of love how can you lose?? I just meant I didn't want to go through saying the same thing about my brother when I just had posted itl I wouldn't be on the prayer thread, and telling everyone about this situation if I didn't know people would read it but on the plus side I also know they will pray!!! So no please don't me afraid of posting to me; like I said before the hard part of "talking" on the net we can't "hear" the voice or "see" the expressions.
Thanks for the prayers
Bless

Just would like to ask for prayer for myself. I have suffered depression in the past and been on medication. At the moment I am not on anything and don't want to go back on anything but I am finding that my mood is getting more of a challenge to deal with. I try to stay upbeat and positive and think about what I have to be thankful for and all that, but life challenges seem to affect me more when I am in these times and it is a constant battle.
I don't usually ask for prayer but thought some of you might understand what I am going through and be able to pray knowledgeably about it. My husband just doesn't get it and gets defensive. Thanks Jan

Jan, my prayers are with you. I know it can be a struggle. I went through it a bit when I had my stroke and couldn't speak. Imagine a preacher and professor without a tongue! Mind you, wife's strengths came out and helped me over those hurdles.

C.H. Spurgeon had great bouts of depression that kept him from the pulpit for weeks at a time. He had these problems all through his life.

None of us are exempt, and do not feel isolated. Looking up is easy to say sometimes, but that is what we must do. Great saints in the Old Testament went through great bouts of depression. God allowed them to suffer and eventually lifted them out and up.

You have been through a horrible season of bad weather, and I am sure this must play havoc on your mind also. There is a reason why God created the seasons..We know there is a lift coming soon.

Cheers, and God bless, knowing that we are lifting your weighted arms as you seek His face in personal prayer.

Jim

my early posts described where I have come from
includes, depression/medication followed by
(without medication) more life-decisions
continued parenting youngest was born in 1984

I dont 'work' any more
and if, I could borrow one of the lads 'bodies'
I would show them yet-further 'good-example'

THAT! is just a forlorn-wish I could never fulfill ......
a possible regret
with my present limitations
(with the best will in the world - we are only human)

take courage gg
when you find yourself wanting
I am sure your answer will come
your need to want will be lifted from you

Storms
_blow themselves out

Climate Changes
_must be adapted-to or, emigrated from

There was a time, stepping on a nail
or, tearing the flesh on the hand
could cost the person the limb, if not their life

New solutions and 'cures' patches and workarounds
are being developed daily
by persons with a little more 'experience'

airing of the problems
shares the weight of the 'one'

Personally
I came out of six and a half months of medication
to begin a seven month relationship with (for-me)
an Angel
the new relationship began online (IM) and grew so well
that we were eventually able to meet confidently
as if we had always known each other

I was reminded of Nicer Times
I enjoyed a mutually enjoyable relationship
which for a number of reasons could not continue
The lady and I do, however
remain the best of friends (phone-email)
and Peter (her chap) has said
that he would like to meet me (after reading me online)

I pray that you will find relief and support
through difficult times
until you say..............what troubles you have
no-one can hear
'someone else hurting' that same-way

I did! speak up !
I joined a forums and stayed forfive to six years
I made friends there
and that is where Evie 'read' my-story
the result of our 'extended affair' is, that this man
can sit here now telling you that it isnt over yet

Dont worry about yesterday ITS HAD IT'S DAY !

Hi Jan :)
Depression exists in typically 2-forms:
1. Short-lived, situational-type, depression - where a basically Happy person is temporarily-stuck; but as soon as he/she is able to access & control Resourceful states-of-mind, this person is able to regroup and once again live Happy as they normally do.
then
2. Long-standing, chronic-type, depression - where a person "trying to stay upbeat... ends up being a constant battle".

Know Jan, that *you can* successfully overcome that challenge  too. Also Counselors are available, who can teach you skills empowering you to live your life Joyfully on your terms (as far as that is humanly possible; and more of it is, than most people believe). ~ I know these things, Jan, for I have triumphed over #-1 type situations many times, as well have helped others (including chronic-depressives) achieve what they want...

Wanna discuss some more successful ways you can help yourself, Jan? :)

I wish you all the Best :hug:Annie

Ok all I'm in need of prayer again!! It has been an extremely stressful day!! Yes dealing with Mom! Has not taken "no more driving" well. Plus my sister who is here visiting and dealing hands on with Mom has ended up in the hospital!! They don't know what's going on yet but she is bleeding(private). She hasn't felt good for about a week and thought it was all nerves about Mom and flying out here and all, but guess not. Sure the stress is not helping. This dealing with your aging parent is not an easy thing( I will certainly be able to emphasize with anyone who has to go through it)but please keep us in your prayers, my sister(Dee) and me. Am going down tomorrow to be with sis and try and deal with Mom, fun fun

Oh Bonnie I am so sorry to hear about the set backs. Family stresses are what get me down the most I think. There just seems to be everything spiralling out of control and it is very anxiety provoking. I will pray for you all that God will minister just what each of you needs right this minute. Love Jan

Oh thanks so much Annie,Jan, and Lynn for your words of encouragement and your prayers. When you're going through hard stuff, I don't know how people who don't love the Lord do it, knowing that people are really praying for you is such a uplifting feeling. It's a feeling that's really hard to describe.
My sister had all kinds of test run and the outcome is a severe case of colitis!! And of course stress plays a BIG part in this disease. Now we have to figure out a way to know we have done all we can do for Mom,to keep her in her house and be as safe as possible. Somehow she had got it in her mind that today my sister and I were having people come and take her from the house!!! The people that came are called 'Lend a friend', and we hired them so she can stay in the house longer. But her mind tricked her into thinking the worse possible scenario. This is what we have been dealing with the last two days and my sister so upset she ends up in the hospital. My Mom has so much fear now being doubled by the dementia. So now my sister and I have to really let go and let these different programs do there thing and know we have done the best we can. But my sister is such a nurturer. This has been a learning time for me, I to was sick one whole day, and now I see what this kind of stress has done to my sis, I have to deal with it differently. Please pray that we can truly let go and let God deal with Mom and heal my sis and me. We both need to have more confidence in the things we've put in place and in the Lord. He knows what the outcome will be and it will be that way regardless if we make ourselves sick or not. The way we've personally been dealing with this situation has not been honoring the Lord, so now He has given us a wake up call and we have got to listen to Him!! I just thank you all so much for your prayers, love you all
Bless
Bonnie

It's so hard when our parents need us to be strong and we still want them to take care of us.
Please try to take some time for yourself. Even if it is only sitting in an easy chair with a cup of tea. Just take an "AAHH" moment as my mom use to call them.
I will continue to pray for you all.
God Bless

Bonnie it sounds like you and your sister have done an amazing job of putting suport in place for you Mom. It is hard not to feel bad when she goes off like she does with paranoia but I want to share a story that happened to me with a client when I was nursing.
The facility I worked in was an intermediate care facility not a nursing home and we often hosted clients for short term stays to afford relief for families dealing with family members with Alzheimers or other dementias.
A son brought his mom to be admitted for a week or two and she was absolutely having none of it even though she had reviewed the place and agreed to it. The thing is due to her dementia she forgot the plan and all the control (as in loss of) feelings were making her anxious and angry. WE both tried to reassure her that it was temporary would be pleasant etc. NO GO> Finally I gave son the secret nod to just go and I would pick of the pieces. Well it was much like the preschoolers first day at kindergarten. We had to walk around the ward several times and chat ( think for an hour) but gradually she relaxed forgot why she was upset and created for herself a wonderful scenario of why she was there and what she was going to do. She joined the other ladies for tea at 7:30 pm in the lounge and all was well. It took time but I didn't mind it was my job, I didn't take her anger personally. The peple you have put in place I am sure are like that and will be able to reassure her that they are there to give her control of her life not take it away.Anyway blessings and I am praying for health and strength for you and your sister.Jan
