• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

this time coming to this forum and reading other's struggles just makes me feel worse. nothing is actually worse.

ive managed to not commit any act last week. and tonight i went over to a friends to prevent myself, though i havent told them the craving has been there and has built up. i ended watching a television programme about recovering self harm teenagers - in the end i took a walk - and have just got back.

i gave in. and now im hiding? i hate having peope know about what i do. nothing changes.

I have just done it after not doing it for 4 yrs... the urge is strong and I keep calling to God to give me strength to resist and I am at a bad place and I want to do more than cut but really slice myself open and I know it is because of the darkness inside, because of the abused me. I have pushed it to the back of my mind for 4 yrs as I couldn't live with knowing what was done to me, and now is the time to try again and resolve my pain.. for I need to in order to be free in Jesus, free to be vulnerable again, free to trust.

I just hurt  :sigh:

I know it's difficult to hang in there and to stay strong against our feelings.

Crunchy, facing your past will be painful but the end result is worth it. Do you have a counselor you can work on things with?

Have you heard of the Bible Study Breaking Free? I did that study as it helps us to look at ourselves from Christ, rather than from our abuse. I'd love to do it again, but it's hard to find a study that works with my schedule.

Celtic, hang in there. I'll be praying for you. I hear what you're saying.

Leechness, it sounds like you've been doing what you know you need to do. At times we give in to the urges, but we get back up. You can do this!

I don't have a counsellor as yet, I really want a Christian, I have found one that does email counselling, so I am discussing this with my Pastor.

I haven't heard of Breaking Free, but I had a look and it sounds great. Though I am just starting a Freedom In Christ course, so will wait until that is finished in a few months. I am using a book to work through that is for teens, but it helps me as it is written from a Christian perspective called A Safe Place by Jan Morrison, and I want a counsellor to help me as I work through this book- leaning on God when it gets so hard!

He says he will never tempt us more than we can take, but I am so tempted right now.

I will be a month free on Sunday if I can keep going with this, it will be the longest I've been free in about 2 years.

But I am so close to giving up.
You can do it Hun . What sorts of things work for you when you're tempted? To almost make a month, you must have beaten the temptation before. What types of things have you used in those times? (We also have a list of ways to beat the temptation stickied here).

I agree with Steffi, you can do this. You're doing good - you've been doing it for 30 days now!

Hang in there. Take it one day at a time... try not worry today over what will happen tomorrow. worry today about what you can do today.

 Hold on.
