  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why is this bad?

When a guy starts to rely on "self service" sex, his wife starts to feel unattractive. There is a price that eventually has to be paid. Who in the relationship is more dependent on the porno movie, and what happens to "regular" sex without the porno movie?

You pays, your money and you takes your chances

Is this always a win-win?

I'd be interested in seeing proof of this, too. And I agree, it sounds silly to me, too

Following this example, do you think that someone would feel less attracted to their wife because of "self service sex" (as you put it)? Or, would they would be more likely to engage in such activity because they feel less attracted to their wife?

Did that come across clearly?

Ahh, if this damages the relationship, then sure. But does it? A relationship should not focus on sex. If it is built on sex then it will surely founder. If it is not built on sex, sexually issues will not cause it to founder.

Porn is a side issue. If you care about your wife, will you watch porn? That depends on many different things. If you care about your wife, will you watch baseball while she does the washing up?

Same issues - nothing to do with sex or porn itself.

I don't know about prefer, but it does happen. Just ask any teenage boy for starters and work up the food chain from there. Who do you think is sitting on webcam porno sites?

And what do you think they are doing? reading the articles?

"You know that driving a car can be a fun activity? It can also kill you."

LOL, not at all. he made a comparison that something that is fun can't be bad. I thus showed him it can. Just think logically and you'll understand.

"no more than when you are having sex with them. and addiction??? "

Yes, it does objectify them. You think of them as a object, not a person. As for the comparioson with washing hands, those people go to therpy to get cured! If you want to make that link that watching porn means you need to be cured of watching it, go for it, but that was not my intention just that it does cause addiction that causes anti-social behavior.

PLUS, all serial and mass murderers that I have heard interviews by all started with porn. It devalues humans by objectifying them :)

Just do a simple search and you'll see.

This is a fantastic point.

I have seen a relationship get torn apart because of an acquaintences involvement in pornography.

His wife didn't originally have a problem with it. But eventually, he stopped finding her attractive because she wouldn't do the same things that the women in the movies did. And she didn't have the figure that these women have. He confided in me once that he just didn't find his wife attractive.

To be honest she was attractive and he had let himself gain 40 pounds. :)

His wife was eventually very hurt by his attraction to these porn stars and started to feel like he was just using her as a (for lack of a better word ) tool.

So no, Pornography is definately not a victimless form of "art". It's destructive to otherwise productive marraiges.

This story is not a rare one. There are pornography help organizations all over the place (both christian and secular) who help men get over their addiction, and restore marraiges.

The wife will feel less attractive and less needed over time when their guy, is spending more time at his ready-teller.

The key word is "eventually"

This doesn't happen over night. The wife starts to  her head, "What is going on", he used to be on me like a dog in heat, and it seems over the last 6 months, he's interested, but hmmm just not as much? He seems to always suggest a porno with sex? And he seems to have more fun and is more interested with a movie in the machine, then when there is no movie? And you know I'm starting to be more dependant on those movies as well.

Coastie, checked out your links. In one of em the gentlemans first paragraph was this..
Whether pornography has any significant harmful effects on consumers continues to be a controversial issue, not only for average citizens but also for behavioral scientists. This is not surprising in the light of the fact that two national commissions .the Majority Report of the 1970 Presidential Commission on Obscenity and Pornography and the 1986 Attorney General's Commission on Pornography .came to diametrically opposed conclusions about this matter.

So even the professionals can't decide whether or not it is "bad" or not.
Not a good way to start his anti porn speech!

Angel

Don't get me wrong, if you could order a "hot blonde" like pizza, you would have a landside business. But this isn't about fulfilling curiosity, this is about getting a "quick thrill" without having to satisfy a mate at the same time. The problem is, it eventually allows the man the choose, not to need his wife, as much. Which for many is a open door to future problems.
