Some Christians don't get involved in politics and leave the material world concerns to others.
But then on the other side there are those who let their religion inform and guide their political choices.
Then again, there are those who really take advantage of people's religious beliefs to bolster their own power... generating lots of religious sounding language, but for their own purposes.

* Would it be better to steer clear of politics and politicians and rely completely on Jesus?
From what I've read of the gospels, that seems more in line with what Jesus was saying.

It is my opinion and belief that as citizens of this world we as Christians should be involved in how our government(s) are run. I am a conservative Republican and I believe in "In God We Trust." We should show our Christ-like attitude within the confines of politics and influence what is right whenever we can.

God uses us as His instrument in this world. Should Christians just stand by while corruption, evil reigns in our government? God handles all but He uses His people as well.

The state of our nation is not "material" things. As a christian, I believe it is my duty as a citizen of this nation to take a stand against good vs evil in our government. Material things would be whatever we choose to covet after.

While I still follow it, I've gotten less passionate about politics as the years have gone by. It just doesn't really matter. God is able to work & save people despite the flaws in government & human sin.

People are born into decent nations & come out as Christians. People are born into wicked nations & come out as Christians. The Gospel isn't advanced by passing laws.

The NT doesn't exactly forbid getting involved in politics, only to follow the law the government gives you.

Politics at the end is a business of Caesers. Does it subject ot God and Jesus, possible. Does it subject to the influence of Satan, more likely. Caesers' are not of God, their business thus is more likely being influenced by Satan.

Having pride in one's nation, especially one that promotes individual freedoms, is not sinful. One lives in this realm and should do all that is good, honest to promote such attributes at this.
