I totally agree about the F-14 being iconic, and I reckon it's the real star of Top Gun. My particular interest, with regards to aviation, is military aircraft, and particularly fighter jets; the F-14, of course, is my favourite fighter jet.

Yes brother. Particularly at my age, military aircraft are my main interest. I have been drawing ww2 warplanes from an early age; thats why it was such an unbelievable experience to actually fly in a Spitfire. The one I flew was actually built in 1944 and saw service with the Royal Canadian AirForce; Indeed, in September 1944 it took part in the D-Day invasion, shooting down a Messerschmit 109 over Arnhem. It was then converted to a dual seat trainer in 1954.
I’m afraid that even at my age, I still enjoy flight simulators of many types.

That's really special, that Spitfire that you flew in actually saw service! The only flight simulator I've tried is GeoFS, and I'm pretty terrible at it, probably because I'm trying to control the plane with my mouse, as I don't have a joystick. Hopefully, I'll get better with practice.

That is indeed an F-14. If you look at the jet's chinpod, it has two side-by-side sensors (infrared and TV camera to help with visually ID'ing targets at long range), meaning that this is an F-14D.
