• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hi, I am new here. It seems most poeple on here have problems with cutting themselves. I don't. But I do pick at my scabs and have been since I was young. I also scratch bumps or dry patches of skin and once they become scabs, I pick them. I hate doing it and it is gross but every time I have tried to stop, I've failed. It seems the best I have been able to do is divert to a different part of my body. The most concentrated spot is my fingers and cuticles but in the past it was my ankles when I had flea bites and now my scalp from dry skin.

Can someone please help me? I don't want to do this anymore and am not sure if it is a spiritual thing that needs to be broken off. I don't think I need to take medication for it. I belive Jesus can heal it. But I have prayed about it before and still struggle.

Do any of you do this? What do you suggest?

Thanks so much

I do it also, picking around my fingernails until they bleed, pick scabs, cut - whatever form my self injury takes at the moment.
I guess the only thing I can say is maybe you need to talk to someone about why you do it and how you can stop. Is there someone in your life you can share with?
I'll be praying for you! TN

Hello Sweet Heart:

It is good that came in here and talked about what you are doing to yourself. Now you need to find someone that you believe knows about Self-Harm or Injury Issues to talk to as well. This behavior is not easy to stop. I have to honest with you about that.

There is a reason that you are doing it. You may have buried some where but no one does these these kinds of things to themselves without a good reason. You need to find that out. Start your healing adventure by doing so. You might beginning by journaling about your life and sharing it with someone you trust and that is trained in Self-Injury/Harming principles. I will pm you with a book and a site that might be helpful for you.
