The survey found that just 21 percent of Americans supportive of Trump and Republicans believe the media is fair. But it also found that just 55 percent of those who don’t back Trump also believe the media is not fairly covering politics in the U.S.

Why should anyone be surprised?
Our media are corporate entities with fiduciary responsibility to their shareholders.
Pushing the envelope, in any direction on any topic, generates more traffic which translates into a greater ROI.
A capitalist media being capitalistic.

Truth, integrity, fairness, accuracy, etc are not profitable.
That's what we have.

That’s why it’s important to understand the importance of having multiple news sources and to include opposing biased sources.
Equally important is to understand the credibility of one's news sources. Many news sites regularly let bias over-rule objectivity and seriously distort the "news".

Look at enough sources and most people develop discernment. Unfortunately people on the far right and far left tend to stay in their echo chambers.

How do you fix this bias via legizatoin NH?

Oh dear.
Putin's regime has total control of Russian news, yet
  • 63% of Russians think it is "never acceptable" for a Kreml-controlled news organization to favor one political party over others when reporting news
  • 35% say the Kreml-controlled news organizations in Russia are doing "not well" at reporting news accurately
  • 26% say Kreml-controlled news media in Russia is doing "not well" at reporting on government leaders and officials
  • 37% say Kreml-controlled news media in Russia is going "not well" at reporting different postions on political issues fairly
Those numbers of distrust cannot be good news for Putin...?

Noting that the echo chambers are not the same size on the two sides.

The headline on the story does not reflect the content. The survey asks about how biased Americans think their news media are. Since we've had sources screaming at them for many years that news media are biased (and now "Fake news!), is it any wonder that many people believe them?

This is relevant how?

According to what I've been told, Anything left of Fox News or Brietbart is hopeless left-leaning and tainted. If you believe that, then it probably looks like Fox News is a lonely island of neutral in a sea of rabid Anti-American Commie-ness.

Bunk, but that's the narrative.

Perhaps if Americans didn't repeatedly find their news media lying to them, the cries of 'Fake News' would fall on deaf ears.

The home of Fox News ranks poorly in media bias? This is not a surprise. But isn't the poll about what Americans "think" of their news?

With Trump constantly denigrating the media in the USA, is it any wonder? Literally anything Trump doesn't like is labelled "fake news", and we get an alternate reality from the White House. That alternate reality is then relayed as the truth by Fox News, it's a very interesting dynamic. For example, the size of the crowds at Trump's inauguration.

That's how bias gets made (but hey, it's the Washington Examiner!), and what happens when people just can't be bothered to check the original source, in this case, the Pew survey:
Publics Globally Want Unbiased News Coverage, but Are Divided on Whether Their News Media Deliver: Deep political divides in many nations on satisfaction with news media; greatest is in the U.S.

Note that the news story you quoted in the OP contained a lie in the headline. Perhaps you should find different news sources.

I was wondering how our media managed to beat out the U.K. and Germany, let alone places like Turkey.

Perhaps if Americans didn't repeatedly find their news media lying to them, the cries of 'Fake News' would fall on deaf ears.

I think that Americans are simply more aware of the bias, rather than it being more biased.

The media has been skewed since there was media. I never understood why people believe everything fallible, corrupt humans tell them just because of their authoritative position.

However, polls are ridiculously terrible at objectivity. Statistics cannot be objective; they need substantative context. With that said, how many people were polled, and in what areas? What were their religious and political alignment? Do they have children?

Just putting a statistic - whether it is a civilian, CNN, Fox or a professor - is misleading at best. Polls shouldn't dictate the objectivity of your life.
