• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

People who behave like martyrs for no good or necessary reason, but just to deprive themselves. Like when you offer a friend some food, knowing that they tend to skip meals, and they act like they must refuse your offer lest they cause you trouble.

Or when you're standing outside and you offer your friend a chair and they refuse, saying they are OK standing for the next hour in the hot sun. So then your choice is to get into an argument with them, or give in. Both unpleasant options. It's better not to care about the person in the first place, which is probably what they want.

It's pointless!

just got to shrug and say their lost.....even though I know I have been in the same situation and feel self conscious the whole time---b/c you want to be nice. But yet.....I have been on the other side and I can see where they don't want to cause problems or really it is no problem to stand....know what I mean?!
Sorry that it had to happen to you!!

Thanks, ODAAT! I'm learning to shrug ... rather than get into a whole back-and-forth with the person. With one particular person, even her first refusal is discouraging, like you're offering her too much by merely asking if she wants something. I understand what you're saying, about being on both sides of the situation. I guess if this person was gracious to begin with, like, "Oh! That's very nice of you! But no, I'm fine," then it would be easier.

But anyway, I'm sure there's no ill will on her part. It's just a peeve of mine. :sorry:

You're Welcome....and yes I can understand the peeve part!! How about when you are serving someone....and they do the same type of thing--but you know that they really do want it and then don't even say "No thank you!"

A niece that keeps saying she is coming over and doesn't call until after the fact that she was to be here (and she was the one to bring supper). So no supper---we had to mix something up at 9 pm b/c she didn't call until after the fact!

I actually know someone who does pick their nose in front of you, and sees nothing wrong with it.

People who surprise you, like oh by the way, I am going here on Saturday,on your day off, when you had something else in mind to do w/ them. It just erks me :argh:
