  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The majority of non-Christians and some Christians as well believe that homosexuality is natural and therefore should be accepted.

There is no such belief. At least there shouldn't be. If you find yourself in dialogue with someone who makes this argument, you may simply and correctly accuse them of the naturalistic fallacy.

The argument that homosexuality is natural (a trivially true argument in reality) is simply a rejoinder to the claim that it is not natural.
I ask this. If homosexuality is deteremined to be something your born with, then how do you explain pedophilia?
Are you asking how I justify pedophilia? I don't.

It might well be natural too. So what? Being natural doesn't make something bad or good; its effects are independent of whether or not it is natural.

The world is not an easy place. All sexual tendencies are partly due to genetics and partly to external stuimulus, I believe. It's the only way I can account for all the information I have been exposed to. The question shouldn't be whether or not it's deviant or normal or nature or nurture anyway. It should be whether or not two consenting adults are engaged in it. Pedophilia, if acted upon can not be between consenting adults. So it's not like homosexuality.

People strive to show Homosexuality as natural in cause because it causes serious problems for Christian arguments against Homosexuality.

If God made some humans to be homosexual, how can one justify homosexuality as being a sin?

So, for secular ethics, it's not the fact that an act is natural that makes it moral, but that it's consentual and harmless in moderation (like any other accepted sexuality)

Homosexuality is bascially having an attraction, affinity & love for the same sex.

Pedophilia is the violent, destructive, and traumatizing victimization of a defenseless child for your sexual pleasure.

I am offended and disgusted that you would try and pair the two. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Your intent is not to bring an end to pedophilia, but to demonize a group of people you detest and think are weaker than you... or in other words, cause violent, destructive and traumatizing harm by using God to justify your actions.

Now, that is a clear connection.

It might be an idea to define pedophilia as an attraction as well - it won't necessarily be acted on, and to tar all pedophiles with the same brush when it's the ones who do act on their desires that are at fault isn't really fair.

Maybe it is better restated like this:

Pedophilia is the desire to commit violent, destructive, and traumatizing acts against a defenseless child for your sexual pleasure.

Considering pedophilia was your ancestral history (and in most cultures), not really, no.

I expect in a few more centuries as we continue to live longer and people require even more years in school, sex with anyone under the age of 21 will be considered "traumatizing" as well

Homosexuality = Sexual attraction between two consenting adults

Paedophilia= Sexual attraction to children which MAY result in acting that attraction out and traumatizing the non-consenting child,

I think everyone is clear we're talking about modern times... or if we're not clear, let me direct the conversation to a discussion of these topics as they relate to current cultural norms & values.

Are you suggesting that pedophilic acts are not violent, destructive or traumatizing?

I think my definition is essentially the same as yours and adds the impact of the actions.

It's not accurate to define it as it suits you. That's the definition from Dictionary dot Com which, sit down and brace yourself, is a Dictionary, whereas you are an internet goober. I will go with the dictionary definition.
