  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The cover story of Scientific American this past May states that infinite earths in parellel universes really exists. Apparently, current data show that space is probably infinite. In infinite space any event with a probability greater than 0 will happen. This would include parellel universes, people out there with identical memories to our own, and all kinds similar weirdness. Perhaps someone more knowledgable on the subject could elaborate. But, if all this is true, what are the theological implications?

This is so very theoretical, with nothing substantial to base it upon except numbers...
and humans can make numbers say/represent whatever you want them to.

This is psuedo-science, and fringe-psuedo-science at that.

My opinion...

I would like to know more about this subject. Can anyone assist me? :help:
Consider the matter and interactions that make up the physical person known colloquially as 'Plan 9.' Determinism suggests that the state of the matter and interactions at time T is the whole of 'Plan 9' at time T.

Now consider another collection of matter and interactions in some distant part of the universe, nearly identical to 'Plan 9,' save for an extra hydrogen ion in a cheek cell. Call her 'Plan 10.' Plan 10 is a deterministically distinct being from Plan 9, but only remotely so. If you were to put them side-by-side, you might be unable to tell them apart.

Given infinite matter and space, and a very large amount of time, it is a logical necessity that Plan 10 exists. Not to mention Plan 11, Plan 12, Plan 13... and all beings betwixt and between. If every combination of matter exists, or will exist, all beings who are only minutely different from Plan 9 will all exist at some time.

However, I might not go so far as to call these "parallel universes."

There are not any actual numbers, unless you want to argue that infinity is a number.

Well, it's not really science. It's philosophy, or logic. Given infinite matter and space, all combinations of matter will exist. Thus, all beings who are physically almost you, but not quite, will exist.

Given infinite matter and space, and a very large amount of time, it is a logical necessity that Plan 10 exists.

If you limit the properties that make up such a thing, perhaps. But you talk about infinite time and infinite space. Isn't the spacio-temporal location of an object part of its properties? Plan 10 in 20 billion years' time is different from Plan 9 in that respect, too.

I have no objection to the subject being primarily philosophical or logical. I don't even object to the subject being "pseudo-science". I would simply like to know more about it.

Thank you for sharing you thoughts and feel free to continue, so long as it interests you to do so. :)

I'm not sure. Spacio-temporal location is certainly a part of what it means to describe or identify a single object, but I don't know I would go so far as to call it a "property." I don't think the essential properties of my computer's mouse change as I move it around its little desk space.

Yes, yes, yes. Finnaly. I have been saying this all along. Now, if everything is infinite, then everything is possible. If there is no God (assuming God keeps the universe in order) then space is obviously finite. Otherwise it would be ruled by chaos, because everything that could happen would be happening every moment. I mean everything. I think in a previous thread lucaspa and I were going over a finite universe expanding infinitely.

Jet, it also says that the constants can change. Wether or not this allows the existence of a god type creature I dunno, would have to read more about how the constants change.

However the constants in our universe do not allow for a god, perhaps in another universe with different rules there is a god.

Not true. If there was a true God, there would be the same true God for every existence. God created everything. Which brings me to the point that the paralell universes would interfere with eachother because possibilties would be like: because universe A has a cat drinking from a toilet, universes B-infinity must have all of their atoms split. It can happen because everything can happen.

I'm fairly certain that this topic as well as the some of the others you are participating in are above your level.

Your preacher is lieing to you, are monumentally ignorant.

Very interesting thread. Even believing in God, I've wondered this myself. I have a site at www.thedreamchronicles.com . Most of the stuff is standard dreams and all, but some of it I can't help but wonder about. I've seen lots of studies on lucid dreaming and all, along with peoples theories on dreams actually being the gateway to these other realms (universes) through OBE's. Don't really know what I believe concerning it all, but it is very interesting.

Meatros, he's not a YEC. It's probably Dayton's doppleganger. Or evil twin. Or just his twin.

That's not a YEC. Can you not distinguish between OE evolutionists that take cheap shots against YEC by going undercover and trying to do as much damage as possible by faking stupididty, and others as I and Badfish?

"MySavior", you are not fooling me. I've Pmed you on this. You and Dayton's behavior makes OE evolution look bad. Really bad. Take it from one of us. Whenever I see this, and posts like such, I see it as a victory for YEC. Insecurities forcing OE evolutionists to travel such GREAT LENGTHS...
