  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

1. Any woman running on a presidential ticket no matter the party is going to go through this.

2. These are not Palin's "tastes". She's country girl who's now in the international spotlight.

3. You conveniently neglected to report that after the election all of her wardrobe is going to charity.
She didn't buy the clothes the RNC did. Some have nothing better to do but attack Palin because she is a woman.

This thread is stupid. Who the hell cares if Palin has expensive tastes? Most people do. Look around your home, whadda yah see?

It's more than likely poor people are mad about all this. Bad question.

I don't know anybody whose mad about it.

I know quite a few people who are amused by the whole "she's a reformer" label while such stunts are being pulled.

The Republican Party is hoping that by poisoning the well, they may be able to pull out a victory.

I think they are both doing it... Instead of talking what the issues are...they talk what is bad about each other.. end result those more skeptical think ah....they are not worth it...

BTW if something happens to Mcain who is in his seventies and has cancer (melanoma) is Palin going to have enough experience to become a president?? That is a risk we will all have to take if one is considering voting Macain republicans or not.

Yes, I understand that. I wonder why no one has question what any of the men have spent on their wardrobe.

Or there are the people wearing MILP t-shirts and burning Bush in effigy? What about the Repub. County leader that had his home shot up? I don't hear racial epithets and calls for Obama's death.
Don't deny there isn't racism on the other side. Colin Powell and Condi Rice are Uncle Tom and Aunt Jemima according to some people in the left

it's good to hear you still support gen. powell. he did make an extremely cogent argument on meet the press a week ago, didn't he?
i keep hearing you talk about these examples of hatred from the obama camp, but have never seen links or citations for same. could you provide them? i'm sure you have them, i have just never seen them.

Powell supports an activist judiciary, and doesn't care for rural values... Thus, he is supporting Obama... Not because of the "issues" which it can be construed, he disagrees with Obama on.

care to be specific about the places they disagree, or do you think your more general swipe is sufficient?

Excuse me, I live in an extremely rural area and he cares about what I value - are you rural too? Is that why you used that particular point or are you making generalizations?

I don't support Powell. I was simply saying there is racial hatred on the left as well.

What Colin Powell Didn’t Say

He declared that Sarah Palin’s presence on the ticket signals a rightward shift in the Republican Party that was not to his liking. And in an odd tribute to Hillary Clinton, General Powell claimed that Barack Obama reaches out to “all villages” because “all villages have values, all towns have values, not just small towns have values.” Whisps of “clinging to religion” started to permeate the air, and General Powell quickly confirmed that small town values were not to his liking. He point blank stated, “I would have difficulty with two more conservative appointments to the Supreme Court, but that’s what we’d be looking at in a McCain administration.”

Despite General Powell’s stated opinion that either McCain or Obama could be a good president, it all came down to conservative appointments to the Supreme Court. This is an important lesson for all of us. Choosing Supreme Court judges is one of the most powerful acts of a president. President McCain would appoint conservative justices, President Obama would not. Because of this, the lives of many of our future citizens hang in the balance.

I fail to see any other concrete reasons for the endorsement, other than the fact that he sees Obama as intelligent and capable enough.

I don't care what he does and doesn't know about. I was asked to produce one issue over which Powell was going to vote for Obama, and I did. Powell's decision had nothing to do with race.
