(CLV) Ro 2:4 - Or are you despising the riches of His kindness and forbearance and patience, being ignorant that the kindness of God is leading you to repentance?
(CLV) Ro 2:5 - Yet, in accord with your hardness and unrepentant heart you are hoarding for yourself indignation in the day of indignation and revelation of the just judgment of God,
(CLV) Ro 2:6 - Who will be paying each one in accord with his acts (εργα):
Our acts? Let's take a closer look at this word.
We see James using the same word here:
(CLV) Ja 1:25
Now he who peers into the perfect law, that of freedom, and abides, not becoming a forgetful listener, but a doer of the work, this one will be happy in his doing.
...and here:
(CLV) Ja 2:14
What is the benefit, my brethren, if anyone should be saying he has faith, yet may have no works? That faith can not save him.
(CLV) Ro 2:7
to those, indeed, who by endurance in good acts are seeking glory and honor and incorruption, life eonian;
(CLV) Ro 2:8
yet to those of faction and stubborn, indeed, as to the truth, yet persuaded to injustice, indignation and fury,
(CLV) Ro 2:9
affliction and distress, on every human soul which is effecting evil, both of the Jew first and of the Greek,
(CLV) Ro 2:10
yet glory and honor and peace to every worker of good, both to the Jew first, and to the Greek.
(CLV) Ro 2:11
For there is not partiality with God,
(CLV) Ro 2:12
for whoever sinned without law, without law also shall perish, and whoever sinned in law, through law will be judged.
(CLV) Ro 2:13
For not the listeners to law are just with God, but the doers of law shall be justified.
Yes, we will be rewarded (crowns)--not saved--according to our works (1 Corinthians 3:10-15).

Bearing fruit depends on remaining in Jesus. However, a person's existence does not depend on Jesus. This is proven by the fact that when Jesus died at Calvary, people standing about and watching the event kept right on existing and living.

There are 2 lifes and 2 deaths .... our life on earth is temporary (1st life/death) the 2nd is life or death for eternity.

We know all will die (earthly death) until Jesus returns ... we (believers) have assurance that we will not die the 2nd death (cease to exist for eternity). It is about eternal life ... or eternal death.

Job 27:8
For what is the hope of the godless when he is cut off, when God takes away his life?

It's up to God how long we live ...

Job 14:5 says that God has “determined” and has set the “limits” on our lives. The Hebrew word for “determined” is harats. The word literally means “to cut.” That is, God cuts off a man’s life and does not allow him to continue to live forever.

That is the result of Adam and Eve’s sin in Genesis 3:1-7. Genesis 2:16-17 tells us that God had warned the couple that if they ate of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, they would die. God was referring to both physical and spiritual death. God created man so that he could live forever. But due to the curse of sin, the length of our earthly lives is “cut” off.

The Hebrew word for “limits” is hoq. It means “a boundary.” That is, God has set a boundary on the length of lives. The length of our lives was determined by God before we were born.

Your eyes have seen my unformed substance;
And in Your book were all written
The days that were ordained for me,
When as yet there was not one of them.
Psalm 139:16 (NASB)

an example ...

In those days Hezekiah became mortally ill. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came to him and said to him, “Thus says the LORD, ‘Set your house in order, for you shall die and not live.’” Then Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the LORD, and said, “Remember now, O LORD, I beseech You, how I have walked before You in truth and with a whole heart, and have done what is good in Your sight.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly.

Then the word of the LORD came to Isaiah, saying, “Go and say to Hezekiah, ‘Thus says the LORD, the God of your father David, “I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; behold, I will add fifteen years to your life. Isaiah 38:1-5 (NASB)

Works are expressions of faith but faith cannot be expressions of works.
