There's a poster outside of our animal research facility that is pro-animal research in it's message. It is a picture of several people holding "anti-animal research posters" leaning over a police barricade, obviously arguing with someone on the other side. Underneath the picture is a quote that goes something like this:

Thanks to animal research, these people will be able to protest 20.8 years longer.

:)
funny :)

I do not have a problem with valid research using animals (although i would enjoy it more if it was done on willing humans or humans guilty of murder)
what i have a problem with is the irresponsible research..such as this...(yeah, the link is from peta, if you don't trust them, don't bother looking :) ) I would rather support Easter Seals, and other organizations that aren't incredibly irresponsible.

So you support Capital Punishment? Or just medical experimentation ala Mengele?

You think it would be ok to do research on people guilty of murder without their consent? Because you commit a crime you suddenly become "less human"?

As for medical research on humans, anything that "goes to market" has to pass through several stages, and one of those must be animal trials. You can't just stick chemicals into a human (whether they volunteer or not) before you know if it's even safe. Many medicines are weeded out at this stage because they have side-effects that are unacceptable. If you skipped the animal phase you'd wind up killing countless hundreds, if not thousands, of people for drugs will never be able to be used to advance medicine. That would, effectively, stop medical/technological progress.

sure do. If it is humane to do it on innocent animals, why can't we do it to murderous thugs?

It's called "cruel and unusual punishment". Also, our judicial system is based on one of rehabilitation rather than revenge. A person doesn't become less human because of any crimes that they have committed.

I work with lab mice. I see no harm in using them, they are well taken care of and humanely euthanized after the protocols are done. How do you think we got the drugs that get rid out your sicknesses, the anesthesia for surgery, chemotherapy for when you have/get cancer? Please do your research before you bad mouth animal testing. *steps off soap box and prepares for all the negative responces she will get*

Well if you saw what I saw the other day, you would be sickened and would rethink eating fruits and vegetables, all together.

1) A cob of corn was brutally skinned and then boiled.

2) A potato was thrown into a microwave and cooked from the inside out!!

3) A tomato was dismembered into at least 10 pieces.

It was gross and cruel. I may have to divorce my wife.

What synthetic material is there that matches or surpasses leather's combination of durability, waterproof qualities, affordability, and attractiveness for shoes and workboots? I've got leather shoes that are close to 20 years old and I am wearing them today.

I have no problem with making things out of cowhide or what not.

I have a problem with people thinking that animals don't have rights. Take an example in North America. Grey Wolves have been known to roam all over America searching for food. And they can travel 30 miles in a day searching for food. And known to live their lives in a 300 to 400 square mile range. And they may travel 500 miles just to find a mate.

Then we have to talk about their prey: larged hoofed animals. And it goes on.

Man's desires for land and private property and ranches and building bigger highways for easier use for man has made life more difficult for animals. They are now protected. But they don't have the roaming space they used to have.

In the case of wolves, good! All they do is harass farmers/livestock-guys and kill the odd kid or hiker in the backyard or brush. Their only job (keeping deer 'n stuff under control) can be replaced quite simply by a winchester. Good ridance. (Sorry, but all I know about wolves is pest stories and the odd horror story from friends of victims). In the case of wolves, good riddance! The country will be safer at night without 'em.

What do you mean they harrass farmers and their livestock. Pardon them but they have traveled this land much longer than the white man and the red man.

And i can see you and i are not on good terms with the rifle man, either. People have become the murderers of thousands of these animals. They were the true victims here. And if you go hiking in country, then you need to realize the consequences that could happen.

I think the country would be better off with less greedy people IMO.

Change is not necessarily a bad thing, areas that are now desert were 40-50 thousand years ago great lakes, and the mountains in the area were islands. What we as humans must do is be mindful of the balance that exists and then seek to compliment that balance instead of destroying it. Wolves are apart of the balance, apart of the environment we are moving into or hiking through.

I believe we have a responsibility to the rest of nature. Humans have the ablity to enhance, compliment and manage nature in ways that no other species is capable. It's time we start growing up and using our abilities to assist and aid nature instead destroy it's diversity. I have no problem with respectfully eating meat or wearing leather, life feeds on life and so long as were not promoting abuse or inhuman treatment of animals we are simply being and doing what God/Nature intended for us to do. Wolves are also apart of the picture, like us they can also be destructive however to simply eliminate a piece of the ecological puzzle because we fail to act responsibly makes no sense.

I think if P E T A wants to really do something good for the planet is fight to save all the Babies being slaughtered for absolute selfishness and greed. Abortion or should we say Murder is a bigger problem than us eating meat. P E T A just like any other liberal group stands up and embraces evil. With the kind of murder I am talking about we have millions of human beings just being killed either for greed or because some heartless coldhearted women hates the life that is in her. This is the biggest injustice we have on this earth and you have P E T A worrying about the stuff that is very insignificant or not the least bit important.

 I don't even know what to say in response to your ignorance.

Animals are not insignificant in the least! Take your abortion propoganda elsewhere, because that isn't what this thread is about.
