  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I'm not currently following any anime series at the moment, but many of my friends have been talking about Kamisama no Inai Nichiyōbi, which is coming out on the 6th July (subs are going to be quick I hope). As far as I'm aware, the anime centers itself around a dystopian world in which God has forsaken humanity. Quite an interesting, but depressing concept...

Since all my schoolwork is out of the way, I'm going to start watching Clannad....is it really as sad as people say? I have a very brittle heart regarding sad anime...however I adore Key and have watched some of their other productions (such as Angel Beats).

Kamisama no Inai Nichiyōbi... Godless Sunday... for a predominantly Buddhist country, Japanese anime sure makes a LOT of references to Christianity. Seems like in every other series, somebody is sure to be crucified (Bleach and Naruto being the ones I remember most clearly) :)

Started watching some new series for the summer season: Danganropra, Sunday without God, Rozen Maiden 2013, Dog & Scissors, The World Only God Knows S3, and High School DxD New. Also picked up some classical series such as Bleach and Gintama, as well as finishing off Death Note, Ah! My Goddess, among others.

Finally finished Bleach!

Gintama, here I come!!!
Let me put it this way, on my anime list on MAL, instead of a pithy or imformative comment on the series, I am listing how many episodes have almost made me pee myself from laughing too hard. Stick it out through the first twenty something episodes and it gets even funnier.

Hey, guys, I was wondering if it was okay for me to start a little discussion...

I was just wondering where most of you watched your anime. For example, do you buy the DVDs or watch them online illegally? Or something else? I was just thinking about this, because I watch fansubs of Pokemon (but I don't feel bad, as you can watch episodes on the official website anyway - I just prefer to watch the Japanese versions) and have started to watch Digimon too, online and subbed. This is mainly because you can't buy the DVDs here, really, and if you can they're dubbed only. Somebody also told me to watch Angel Beats, and I've seen part of it, and I'm thinking of getting the DVD, which I can buy here, but one of the reviews said the subtitles were inaccurate, so I don't know... I started a thread about this before, but only got one reply, so I just wanted to get some more opinions on this, really. I don't know if by worrying about it I'm being scrupulous, since I used to struggle with that a lot in the past, or not. One of my Christian friends who's probably the most mature Christian I know watches TV shows online, because he doesn't have a TV.

So, I'd just like to know where you guys draw the line on this kind of thing. Thanks :)

To repeat what I responded with earlier, I hold that it's ethical to watch fansubs so long as you have every intent to purchase the series on DVD/Blu-ray when it's available/practical to do so. This was part of the basic code of ethics that fansubbers supported years ago, and the practice of backing it up with a real purchase is as valid today as it was in 2003.

Not all cases of online watching are problematic. The official distributors will often have lower-quality free streaming options on their websites, or Crunchyroll, or Hulu, or nicovideo. These are all legitimate ways to watch online. This is highly dependent on where you are in the world and whether these services are available there, though. There's also the possibility of using Netflix (again, if available), or other video rental stores. Nowadays, the variety of shows getting this treatment is very high, so unless you're digging back into stuff from before ~2005 or so, chances are you can find a legit venue for it and not be troubled by whether or not it's ethical.

Just wondering, what's your opinion if there isn't a way to make a purchase or if the DVD is out of print and the only purchases you can make are preowned and way overpriced? Including the Japanese release?

So, if you were in my position, for example - wanting to watch Digimon subbed, but it is unavailable here to buy on DVD apart from importing from USA (which doesn't work on my DVD player) or for about £330 ($510) but without subtitles, would you feel it okay to watch fansubs without making a purchase? I think it's available subbed on Netflix as well, but my parents don't want it. Just wondering what you would do, because I've been thinking this over and I'm kind of on the fence.

Thanks for replying, by the way. :)
