  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hahaha that was funny!

Hmmm, right now my favorite is Sword Art Online. I love the story and the fact it's an MMORPG. And Yui ^-^

I haven't finished Angel Beats yet but everyone keeps telling me to... I am going to eventually lol. I just need internet to do so! Same with Clannad ~

I've heard of Sword Art Online, it's quite an interesting concept of being set in an MMORPG. Lol there's actually a Yui in Angel Beats...but she's worlds apart from the one in Sword Art Online!

There's no single favorite for me. If I go with the earliest ones that left a big impact, it'd be Robotech (which I watched in 1998 when it was on Toonami, considering the fact that I was several months away from being born during Robotech's original run in 1985, putting aside that Macross, Southern Cross and Mospeada themselves are a couple years older than that), followed by Evangelion and Oh My Goddess! in 2002, and Please Teacher! in 2002/2003.

I used to have Toonami in Europe, but in China I have no anime channels. I've tried to pressure my parents to get me a subscription to Animax but they tell me to concentrate more on my studies. So I usually just buy dvds (they're very cheap in China) or stream them off the internet, although I feel quite guilty that I'm not giving the creators anything...I'll make sure that I purchase the anime legally as a ''thank you'' to the creator.

I have yet to watch those anime, a lot of them were created before I was born! I've heard about Evangelion, if I'm not wrong it contains quite a lot of Christian imagery.

I'd say Fairy Tail was my favourite for a long time.

I've heard of Fairy Tail too, it has so many episodes! The series just finished this year, I think in around March.

Not sure if you're already aware/want to hear this, but the DVDs you can buy in China probably aren't legal either. And by 'probably', I mean 'almost certainly'. There's many a guide detailing how to spot bootlegs, like this one. I've not heard much about the situation improving over the years, either.

In short, watching fansubs is the more ethical choice in that sort of situation, because buying bootlegs not only doesn't contribute anything back to the creators, it supports organized crime. I should also note that if you're watching official streams (i.e. Crunchyroll, NicoNico, Hulu, or the licensors - Funimation, Sentai Filmworks, etc. - themselves) then there's nothing unethical about it at all.

Sigh...it's close to impossible to buy legal dvds in China, even if the dvds are higher price, they're probably still pirated. Funnily enough, the Chinese government actually deems them counterfeit dvds as illegal...but they don't really care, they only use the police for political reasons. No one really gets in trouble, the police just ''turn a blind eye''.

I'd like to one day, when I have enough money, buy a copy of each anime series and movie I've seen...what's the point of appreciating the work of the developer if I'm not giving them anything? I suppose watching fansubs is more ethical, but I'm still stealing the anime (unless it's not licensed, though that is rare).

Yo! Kurama invited me! I was just reading your post and I'll be in Seoul for almost half a day this fall ^^

Anime I follow: Just the main ones, Naruto, One Piece, and Hunter x Hunter. I've seen hundreds of animes, but now that I don't like wasting my time with watching anime and tv, I only follow up on new episodes being released weekly, and even now I'm getting behind ^^

I've gone to Korea once as part of an East Asian cruise to Japan and Korea. I've been to Busan, it's really cool (though very distinct from Japan and China, so much seafood...shame that I'm a vegetarian).

Don't worry, I'll show the North Koreans my Chinese ID and they'll bow to me. I mean I'm the one paying them taxes to fund their....research
, and the least they can do is give me safe passage through the DMZ.

Kawaii, you're here :bigeye:

This calls for a new anthem: ろん -「おちゃめ機能」FUKKIRETA 【HD.256k.Kara】 - YouTube

(You can't deny that she's good, and she's Vocaloid, just like Hatsune Miku).

Anyone know of anything exciting coming out this season?

I'm not currently following any anime series at the moment, but many of my friends have been talking about Kamisama no Inai Nichiyōbi, which is coming out on the 6th July (subs are going to be quick I hope). As far as I'm aware, the anime centers itself around a dystopian world in which God has forsaken humanity. Quite an interesting, but depressing concept...

Since all my schoolwork is out of the way, I'm going to start watching Clannad....is it really as sad as people say? I have a very brittle heart regarding sad anime...however I adore Key and have watched some of their other productions (such as Angel Beats).

I'm keeping up with Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin) That's really exciting. Not new, it's been out a few months, but I like waiting until anime are more established.

I'm about to finish rewatching Claymore. It's such a great anime, I never really understood it because I first watched it when I was 9 years old. It's a lot better now that I understand everything.

An emphatic yes. The first season only has it occur in a few notable spots toward the end of the individual routes covered there (although in my case, it was worse), but the second half of After Story is pretty much just an emotional shredder spinning at 1,000,000 rpm.

Anyone know of anything exciting coming out this season?
Refer to tiers 1 and 1.5 in my post here, although with caveats: for Monogatari it's assumed you've seen the others (Bake-, Nise-, Neko-) already. Rozen Maiden should be fine as it's a remake and probably won't need exposure to the original television series (it certainly doesn't hurt, though). Ignore the mention of Highschool DxD New, that's the token fanservice show (and I don't mean 'fanservice' lightly).

It's out!

I've been considering Clannad for a while now, but I just don't think with all the emotional turmoil that I am ready for that kind of commitment...
