Your post referred to “authority,” and you pointed out that the senate didn’t have it. You were talking about legalities, and I informed you that the order did in fact come from the executive branch which has the authority. Please don’t put words in my mouth.

Uh......speaking of putting words in people's mouths, please don't put words in mine?
Because while it IS getting late and I AM getting tired, I do not remember anything about saying a senate didn't have authority.
I remember pointing out the part about "X is legal doesn't = X is right", and that being the start of my contribution in this particular thread.

Please point out where we had a prior discussion involving yours truly?

Of course it is right. Go get them and bring them back to do their job.

Isn't their job to represent the interests of their constituents? Is that best done by playing along and letting urbanites who think that meat grows in supermarket freezers screw them over, or by preventing them from doing so?

Wouldn't they do a better job representing the interest of their constituents by actually representing their constituents?

Ah, that’s because you replied to a post that was my reply to @Radagast , and so I thought you were the sane person. If you go back and look at @Radagast ’s post, you will see why I said what I did and that I in no way was saying that because something is legal, it is “right.”

It's really up to the voters to decide whether they're being represented the way they wish to be represented.

I in no way was saying that because something is legal, it is “right.”

Neither was I.

But, conversely, I'm pretty sure that arresting people without either a warrant or "probable cause" is both illegal and wrong.

I'm fairly certain the police are not arresting these representatives.

What the governor did and what the state police are doing is legal in Oregon. It doesn’t involve arrest, just escorting them back to the capital. I live in Oregon and it’s an authority the governed has in our state. The law requires them to be there, to do the job they are paid to do.

Edit: under the law, they can also be fined $500/a day for not attending session.

And they seem to think they do that best, by preventing urbanites who think that meat grows in supermarket freezes, from screwing them over.

Repeatedly saying that isn’t adding weight to it.

What the governor did and what the state police are doing is legal in Oregon.

It doesn't seem that way to me. I certainly haven't seen any proof of that.

Done forcibly, that is either arrest or kidnapping.

No, you’re just wrong. There are quite a few articles on the subject laying it out. This is not the first time this has happened either.

It would be helpful if you could cite the law that authorises the police to do this.

You can do your own research if you’re doubtful. We’re talking about something that’s been widely covered in the news. If you want to spend three hours reading Oregon statutes because you think everyone is lying, go for it.

I've done my research. I can't find any such statute. Increasingly, I doubt that it exists.

Not everyone. Just certain media.

You're sticking with the absurd claim that when the state constitution says that they can "compel" the attendance of members that it means the other state Senators can physically accost them, but they can't have the police perform that action.

Increasingly, I doubt that anyone can reach that conclusion having put any thought at all on the topic.
