Steer clear of Jack Dempsey Gouramis. I added four danios to a tank with a Jack Dempsey thinking they were fast enough to do OK. I came back 15 minutes later and three were gone and the fourth was maimed awaiting the Dempsey to get hungry again.

Gouramis in general are pretty aggressive, I understand.

this same Gourami splashed water out of the tank onto a fairly expensive table radio frying the electronics. I called the CCrane company and reported that my radio had been destroyed by a fish.

They could not stop laughing when I explained... and they replaced the radio!

I'd love to have a tank large enough to raise oscars. Those guys can splash!

We had neighbors who had one large enough that they fed it dog food by hand.

This one was the size of my hand. I used to feed him cockroaches. Their swimming on the top drove him nuts and he hit it like a small mouth bass on a top water buzz bait. You could hear him grind em up.

He was not a Vegan.

I had an Oscar for years growing up. He was about the size of a large open fist and would eat guppies and goldfish by biting them in half and shaking them, then swallowing. Alas, he met his end when he decided one day that he'd give the whole living on land thing a try, apparently having never heard the expression "fish out of water", and leaped out of his tank. We found him and put him back in, but his injuries were too severe and he died several days later.

They're neat fish, though! And, apart from the jumping out of the tank incident, seem to be smart so far as fish go. My Oscar (Which I creatively named Oscar) would come to the top of the tank whenever I got near him, anticipating being fed. :) If I ever got another fish, and could afford the tank and the equipment to comfortable house an Oscar, I think I'd almost certainly choose an Oscar over the other varieties out there.

The incredibly fattening Toblerone cheesecake.

* CaDan rattles his springform pan

I'm ready for it!

Here it is:

Swart's Toblerone Cheesecake

Firstly, make your favourite biscuit base and place it in a shallow, springform cake dish that is well greased and chill.

Ingredients: (metric - 1 tablespoon = 40ml, 1 cup = 250 ml)
1.5 kg cream cheese (3 blocks)
2 eggs
1 tablespoon of cocoa
1 tablespoon of white flour (or rice flour)
1 toblerone (preferably dark toblerone)
3/4 metric cup castor sugar
condensed milk

Method:
1. Beat cream cheese and sugar together, add some condensed milk to help soften and to add to flavour. Generally no more than 1/4 tin of condensed milk should be added.
2. melt tolberone in the microwave, be careful not to boil it. Add the melted toblerone, flour and cocoa. Then add the eggs and mix well.
3. Pour into pepared crust and bake at 160 degrees celsius for 60 minutes.
4. When cooked it should still have a slight wobble in the middle. Leave in oven to cool to avoid cracking. Remove from oven and chill.
5. When serving dust with icing sugar.

tips:
1 Soften Cream Cheese.
2 Be gentle with the eggs - Overbeating after the eggs are added can result in cracked cheesecakes.
3 No peeking - Opening the oven door during baking can cause cheesecakes to crack.
4 Set the timer - Start with the shortest baking time and add more time only if necessary.

NB: This is VERY rich! I serve it on a plate surrounded by liquid pure cream. The cream is necessary as the cheesecake will soak up the cream so as not to make it too rich. I also make a redcurrant sauce that I boil in the microwave and poor over the top immediately prior to serving.

To date, I have only found one person who can eat a whole slice without turning green.

Nutrional information:
I estimate the fat content to be about 800g of which 600g would be saturated and about 8000 calories. This is about 15 times the daily allowance of fat and enough calories to keep a fit, active adult going for three days.

My favourite part of this dish is watching the face of people when they first take a bite!
