  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hello,

I'm looking for help in compiling a list of questions to ask a potential pediatrician. I'm definitely looking for someone who is committed to the fact that I want to breastfeed, and won't suggest formula at the first sign of a problem. I'm also looking for someone who is open to delaying vaccinations and otherwise holistic/alternative approaches.

What questions did you ask potential pediatricians?

You might also want to consider a Natruopathic Doctor for well-baby visits. That's what I do with my kids, and she is really supportive of nursing and natural alternatives. And she has never given me any trouble about not vaccinating my kids. You can tell pretty quickly with most doctors if that will be an issue or not!

Is that covered by your insurance? That's another of my concerns, though we have a very good plan.

Some naturopaths are covered by insurance, depending on their medical status with another doctor, for instance. (The naturopath here where I live used to be in with a medical doctor for just that reason... They'd bill through the doctor's office.) You'll probably have to call the naturopath's office and see if they take insurance, and if they do, see if your insurance will cover it.

IMO, it's a better choice Anyway, and you'd probably end up spending Less in the long run through the naturopath's office than co-pays at a regular doctor's office and pharmaceutical meds.

However! There Are peds out there who are ok with delaying/selectively vaxing, and exclusively breastfeeding. You just have to keep calling until you find one who will work with you. (And talk to the ped him/herself, not the office staff.) You could also check with family doctors and DOs (osteopathic doctors) who are usually Much more naturally-minded than regular AMA doctors.

I used a ped who was willing to work with me with All my kids, at least until they were a little over a year, then I quit taking them usually. I also have used my chiropractor as my primary care physician (and I took my babies to him starting at 2 days old. ;))

I was straight forward and basically asked the pediatrician what you said in your OP. I could tell by her hemming and hawing and looking away that we were not going to be a good match. She actually told me that it's "two vacciations minimum" at each visit! Anyway, tomorrow I'm going to interview someone else and they have a reputation for helping you choose which vax to delay, so I'm really really hoping this is the end of my search.

By the way, I'm also taking my baby to our chiropractor within the first week. If baby gets subluxated (out of alignment) during birth, it causes minor to major problems through the baby's first two years and beyond.

 I didn't even think of this being an issue. I don't want my son vaccinated, either, I don't trust it. Unfortunately, we only have two offices here, so I guess someone's just gonna have to deal with me and my eccentricacies (is that a word? ). lol

Unfortunately, it's nearly impossible around here to interview. Almost no one does open houses or anything like that. I guess if we don't connect on the first visit with the baby, we can switch at that point, but you can't leave the hospital without a pediatrician lined up.

 Wow, i''ve never heard that before! They can't force you to stay in hospital, over here they can't anyway... I took my dd to my GP who specialises in peadiatrics, I didn't wait at the hospital for a dr to check her out...

Yeah, it's the same way here.
