Welcome, Preston!!!
*allye wipes drool from keyboard- can't handle thought of yummy green bean casserole followed by above dessert*
...Brief church history. Made profession of faith at 8 years old. Grew up in a small Southern Baptist church with a legalistic minister. Switched to a very loving Presbyterian Church in America in college. Spent appx 4 years after college in 2 different cities trying to find as loving a PCA church as the college one but found instead mostly theological legalism and hadn't really even been 'reformed' even in college- just loved that church. (Will have to say for those Reformed CFers who may read this that I'm so greatful for my knowledge of scripture from my Presbyterian years. You guys go deep into the word!)
So I went out on a limb and started going to the most liberal UMC in Jackson, MS. A white church that had made a choice not to join white flight and is consequently now integrated in a sometimes dangerous neighborhood. We would occasionally hear gun shots at night services. But oh how I learned about grace there! We welcomed anyone- even stoned stragglers off the street sometimes, built habitat houses etc. I've moved and now live just outside Memphis and a month ago joined a conservative but still full of grace UMC church I've been attending for over a year now. Can't wait to get involved in missions teams.
*allye also decides to throw together a poppy seed chicken casserole and make 2 pitchers of iced tea- one sweet, one unsweet since her mama raised her right and you really can't take too much to a covered dish supper*
AllyeEdited to say the church I grew up in is a now a wonderful church and my family is still very active there. They currently have a loving pastor.
