  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Sandy,

I am so happy to hear things went well and you're doing better.  Surgery is never fun and I hear this one can be pretty painful.  And recovery is really fun having to chase around little kids.  :p ;)

I'll be praying that this doesn't happen again.  Did they suggest any changes to your diet?  I know someone that eats something only at Christmas and always gets stones from it.  Apparently it's worth it. ;)

Onesheep - my dad was like that too. Once he cut back on his iced tea and lunch meat sandwiches and started drinking more water, they went away! It was wierd how it helped. Now he mainly only drinks water or juice, with the occasional glass of tea when he's up here. He also takes leftovers in his lunch & has cut out the lunch meats.

Thanks you guys! :)

Yes, I'm doing very well. I had the stent (sp?) removed today and I already feel much better.

I'm going to be doing some tests in the next week that should tell them if something I'm eating or drinking is contributing to the problem. But the main problem is that I have a 'sponge' (?) kidney. It doesn't work actively, it just kinda sits there and the only thing making it work is gravity. The doctor said that this will be a problem for the rest of my life and the only thing to help it is to drink at least 3 liters of fluid a day. Ack! Otherwise, stuff will just continue to build up in there.

 to Onesheep, Avila, and LilyLamb. :)

Now that sounds like fun alright. They say drinking lots of water helps your kidneys work better but all it does is make me throw the water back up.  I've tried taking sips every 15 minutes, drinking a small glass every 30 minutes, yadda yadda.  I still end up getting sick.  Fluids are not my friends. :(

Amy, that iced tea thing sounds familiar to me.  I think I've heard that before.  Amazing how one thing like that can cause your body such problems.

Sandy, let us know how the tests go and what they discover.

To Sheepie:

I've stumbled on a solution for the folks who can't or won't drink plain ole water.

Eat ice.

Mind you, dentists will be screaming in the background, but if the kidneys don't work right, teeth are rather superfluous.

Get a tall glass of crushed ice and chomp away. Sipping the water that accumulates at the bottom is no big deal, either.

Give it a whirl!

Peace,
~VOW

Actually, I can drink more than a liter of water at one time. Thank goodness I don't do chug-a-lug drinking games, because I'd be breakin' some pride.

But yeah, drinking water can be tough.

Also, on that iced tea thing... Down here in the south, iced tea is KING. We drink it all the time, and it's served at all the non-fastfood restaurants, year-round. I think the same effect occurs with soft-drinks, and to a higher degree. Iced tea is not so much a problem with me, but sodas are killer. If I start drinking too many colas, my kidnies start to hurt. :( So I can understand what y'all are going through.

Disclaimer: humblejoe does not advocate drinking games in any form.
