It undermines the case that her comment constituted a threat or even a desire to misuse that power (a power that she doesn't have).

Merely a friendly reminder to stay on good terms with Law Enforcement...

But I do agree... her comment was a little too Donaldish for my liking.

Socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez threatened to use the powers of her elected office to retaliate against Donald Trump Jr. on Friday after the president's son posted a meme trolling her on his personal Instagram account.

The issue is that it is an ethics violation to threaten such action.

Ocasio-Cortez Threatens To Retaliate Against Trump Jr. Over Meme, Twitter Explodes With Accusations Of Ethics Violations

Quote: "I have noticed that Junior here has a habit of posting nonsense about me whenever the Mueller investigation heats up," Ocasio-Cortez tweeted. "Please, keep it coming Jr - it’s definitely a “very, very large brain” idea to troll a member of a body that will have subpoena power in a month."

If you troll her on social media - she will use the power of the office she is about to hold to silence you?

I absolutely love this woman. Hours of enjoyment watching her. She is the best case against socialism ever gifted to us since the entire debate began in current politics.

As far as her threatening "Jr"? I offer her some motivational advice.

That's the problem isn't it?

I agree it's a problem. Calling out from the other side is not the solution. It didn't work against Trump, it wont work against AOC.

And if you said that except swapping AOC for Trump and socialism for nationalism you'd have the same rhetoric that was being used a few years ago.

It didn't work then, it wont work now. Any right wing individual that thinks the ignorant vaguely socialist ideals of AOC will self-evidently collapse is in for a shock, the same shock liberals received at Trump's election.

How does that comment help her case? "Because you keep criticizing me, I feel like I should remind you that I will share in Congress' power to subpoena who we please"

I wonder how many people who are outraged over this were cheering when Trump tried to kick Acosta out of the White House for doing his job.

Don't you dare call out Cortez for her lunacy...

Junior is just trying to take some of the heat off him and daddy. She's rightfully calling his bluff.

Don't you dare call out Cortez for her lunacy, or she'll "just casually mention" that the legislative body people foolishly elected her to has the power to subpoena you.
Junior wants to square up on Instagram against a 29 year old girl, he better bring better game than a lame meme.

I don't agree with her acting like a 'Trump' but she's young and human, tempted by the flesh. I tend to cut the young a little more slack than those who have been around for awhile.
Plus they're fighting on Instagram.

I mean... How seriously are we supposed to take any of this?

if you make a comment towards a politician, and they, in their reply, remind you that they are part of a group that has the power to subpoena -

how is that not a threat?
Lighten up. Junior got served and looks like a fool now. It happens to everyone from time to time. He'll learn to more wisely choose what memes to share before embarrassing himself again next time.

I have no concern about Jr. He is the CEO of a multi billion dollar corporations. His ability isnt the issue. The threat is is what is at issue.
What threat? I saw no threats, only a helpful hint and reminder.

It absolutely is a threat and was obviously intended as so.
Not sure how anyone could deny that .
If I'm implicated in a crime, a smart move would be to not thumb my nose at the police, prosecutors, jurors or the judges who could potentially decide on my legal prospects.

Then again, intelligence and Trumps don't really go hand in hand.

I would go with a reminder or at most, a warning. In any case, Junior is a big boy...I'm sure he can handle it.

He also isn't some random jerk on the Internet. He's the scion of a well known cyber bully who hides behind his hired (and now government supplied) goons and is likely going to be testifying before the House one way or another.

Right, I got that, and I pointed out that your opinion of socialism as reflected by the antics of AOC is identical to that of liberals, nationalism, and Trump. Look where that ended up. The fact you are misrepresenting socialism and think that it never worked in the scandinavian countries where it has and continues to work fine for decades is beside the point.

Another helpful tip is to not get into an IG argument with someone in their 20s.

The Danes apparently have grown weary of Sen. Bernie Sanders insulting their country. Denmark is not a socialist nation, says its prime minister. It has a "market economy."

While speaking at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government, the center-right Danish Prime Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen said he was aware "that some people in the U.S. associate the Nordic model with some sort of socialism."

"Therefore," he said, "I would like to make one thing clear. Denmark is far from a socialist planned economy. Denmark is a market economy."
Investors Business Daily

Seems even the Danes have been disagreeing with you for years now.

I completely disagree. Someone has to take the high road and hold these politician accountable for what they say.
...Republicans pretty much gave up the right to "hold these politician accountable" about things when 62,984,828 of them voted to make this guy:

the face of their Party.

I don't comment on Trump often because there are thousands doing it for me, but not too many are calling out their self same rules on the other side.
About the bolded portion? If you're not protesting the things he says? Why would anyone pay attention when you talk about others?

I don't think anyone should get a pass on bad behavior.
...do I even need to point out the irony in this? :sorry:

Certainly not the President
Wait...didn't you just say:
I don't comment on Trump often because there are thousands doing it for me
again, if you can't be bothered to comment on the person who represents the Party you're a member of, how seriously should people take your admonitions about a woman who hasn't even taken office yet? :sigh:

and certainly now congress persons, current and future included.
I guess we'll see what happens once she's in office. Sounds to me like the second half of President Trumps administration is going to be a lot of fun for everyone.

She outed herself when she said she didn't have the authority to produce that threat, so it wasn't a real threat. Personally, I wouldn't want one of my kids to respond that way but ....

Assuming he lasts that long -- subpoenas are powerful things; they turn up all sorts of dirty little secrets.
