Socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez threatened to use the powers of her elected office to retaliate against Donald Trump Jr. on Friday after the president's son posted a meme trolling her on his personal Instagram account.

The issue is that it is an ethics violation to threaten such action.

Ocasio-Cortez Threatens To Retaliate Against Trump Jr. Over Meme, Twitter Explodes With Accusations Of Ethics Violations

Quote: "I have noticed that Junior here has a habit of posting nonsense about me whenever the Mueller investigation heats up," Ocasio-Cortez tweeted. "Please, keep it coming Jr - it’s definitely a “very, very large brain” idea to troll a member of a body that will have subpoena power in a month."

If you troll her on social media - she will use the power of the office she is about to hold to silence you?

I guess it would've been too much for The Daily Wire to quote her follow up comment:

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Twitter
For the GOP crying that this is a “threat” - I don’t have power to subpoena anybody. Congress as a body, GOP included, has the power. No indiv. member can issue a subpoena unless they are a Chair (which, as a freshman, I can assure you I will not be). Also must be under purview.

Also, it's interesting to see the right concerned once again about abuse of power.

How does that comment help her case? "Because you keep criticizing me, I feel like I should remind you that I will share in Congress' power to subpoena who we please"

Don't you dare call out Cortez for her lunacy, or she'll "just casually mention" that the legislative body people foolishly elected her to has the power to subpoena you.

I don't agree with her acting like a 'Trump' but she's young and human, tempted by the flesh. I tend to cut the young a little more slack than those who have been around for awhile.

There are far left media sites and right media sites. It's always wise to check out what either of them have said in their super biased articles. Ethics isn't either ones' strong point.

That is what I got from it also.

It undermines the case that her comment constituted a threat or even a desire to misuse that power (a power that she doesn't have).

Nope just deceptively incomplete. If you are going to quote someone to prove a point about them, then to be honest you must quote everything that they said about that point. In this case the media made it appear as if that was all she said. That's holding hands with lying.

if you make a comment towards a politician, and they, in their reply, remind you that they are part of a group that has the power to subpoena -

how is that not a threat?

I would go with a reminder or at most, a warning. In any case, Junior is a big boy...I'm sure he can handle it.

What is the difference from inaccuracy and deceptively incomplete, when the clarification does not do anything do correct the error?

I have no concern about Jr. He is the CEO of a multi billion dollar corporations. His ability isnt the issue. The threat is is what is at issue.

I think people on both sides of the aisle are going to have to accept that Trump has permanently changed the rules of engagement for American politics. Amongst these changes are that puerile empty threats like "he's gonna get subpoena'd" or "lock her up" are now acceptable.

I completely disagree. Someone has to take the high road and hold these politician accountable for what they say. I don't comment on Trump often because there are thousands doing it for me, but not too many are calling out their self same rules on the other side.

I don't think anyone should get a pass on bad behavior. Certainly not the President and certainly now congress persons, current and future included.

It absolutely is a threat and was obviously intended as so.
Not sure how anyone could deny that .

I completely disagree.

Guess we'll have to wait and see. I am depressingly sure that I am correct.

Someone has to take the high road and hold these politician accountable for what they say.

The time for that was back when Trump first started doing it. That horse has well and truly bolted.

I don't comment on Trump often because there are thousands doing it for me, but not too many are calling out their self same rules on the other side.

Why should they? Like I said, Trump has already shown it's a winning strategy.

I don't think anyone should get a pass on bad behavior. Certainly not the President and certainly now congress persons, current and future included.

I don't think it's considered bad behaviour by the supporters of whoever is saying it.

There’s a word for people who applaud a behavior directed at another group, but whine about that same behavior when directed at their own group...
