  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

that's the scary part about Obama, no-one knows all that much about him. I've heard it said he's like a stealth candidate or possibly a Manchurian candidate.

I say we just keep lettin gTeddy introduce him everywhere. LOL!:ebil:
If you like - I could see if I can find the statements of belief that Obama's church took down off their website shortly after he started running for government - some wonderfully racist statements in there.

Let me get this straight. Obama wants to be president, but if we want to get the information we need to find out more about him, we have to pay him for it? No thank you.

This is way off topic man. Didn't you start this thread? What is the first amendment violation and who has accused him of it?

Mach until you can provide substantial evidence that Obama is indeed in violation of the first amendment, you're straight up lying. When someone posts a thread with the title "Obama in Violation of the First Amendment" without a single piece of evidence it means they're lying. Of course, once valid evidence is provided that Obama is actually in violation of the 1st I'll gladly rescind my statement.

I'd like you to for once stop being completely and utterly dishonest. It makes reasonable christians like myself look pretty stupid by creating the impression that dishonesty and lying are central tenants of the christian faith.

Go to a library then. I imagine though that if he outlined his Christian beliefs (whether in a book, on TV, whatever), you and others who are out to assassinate his character at any cost, would dismiss them and say he was just pandering or something. I imagine that nothing he said or did would ever be good enough for you.

But back to the OP, are you going to actually provide any evidence to your claims Mach? Right now the OP title is a lie. Please provide evidence to back up your claim.

Heres info about what obama's church believes as it appeared on their website before it was brought to the publics attention and then taken down in favor of a less racist statement of beliefs. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1773598/posts

Trinity United Church of Christ
About Us

We are a congregation which is Unashamedly Black and Unapologetically Christian... Our roots in the Black religious experience and tradition are deep, lasting and permanent. We are an African people, and remain "true to our native land," the mother continent, the cradle of civilization. God has superintended our pilgrimage through the days of slavery, the days of segregation, and the long night of racism. It is God who gives us the strength and courage to continuously address injustice as a people, and as a congregation. We constantly affirm our trust in God through cultural expression of a Black worship service and ministries which address the Black Community.

Trinity United Church of Christ adopted the Black Value System written by the Manford Byrd Recognition Committee chaired by Vallmer Jordan in 1981. We believe in the following 12 precepts and covenantal statements. These Black Ethics must be taught and exemplified in homes, churches, nurseries and schools, wherever Blacks are gathered. They must reflect on the following concepts:

1. Commitment to God
2. Commitment to the Black Community
3. Commitment to the Black Family
4. Dedication to the Pursuit of Education
5. Dedication to the Pursuit of Excellence
6. Adherence to the Black Work Ethic
7. Commitment to Self-Discipline and Self-Respect
8. Disavowal of the Pursuit of "Middleclassness"
9. Pledge to make the fruits of all developing and acquired skills available to the Black Community
10. Pledge to Allocate Regularly, a Portion of Personal Resources for Strengthening and Supporting Black Institutions
11. Pledge allegiance to all Black leadership who espouse and embrace the Black Value System
12. Personal commitment to embracement of the Black Value System.

Agreed. You don't use a pulpit as a political platform. There's the world of politics, and the world of religion. The two don't mix in our country except by private citizens who vote based on their individual consciences.

Grizzly - like I said - it's a crime when conservatives do it, okay when lefties do it.
No. It's a violation either way.

No, because I don't read lips on internet videos.
Here is what he says.

"It was because of these newfound understandings that I was finally able to walk down the aisle of Trinity United Church of Christ on 95th Street in the Southside of Chicago one day and affirm my Christian faith. It came about as a choice, and not an epiphany. I didn't fall out in church. The questions I had didn't magically disappear. But kneeling beneath that cross on the South Side, I felt that I heard God's spirit beckoning me. I submitted myself to His will, and dedicated myself to discovering His truth."

It may seem that way, but I don't believe its true. I don't think anyone complained when President Bush spoke in this church. In fact, I believe he has spoken in many churches without a single complaint. It only becomes a problem when either side starts campaigning in churches, instead of talking about the issues.

I've seen that quote before and it's full of, well, nothing really. It makes no real statement of Christian faith.
