This week the NyseLife Consultants team members visited our church and told us about a healthy way of living. I was just wondering if anyone out there knows about them? And if you did meet them, hwo did the message change your life?

I'm thinking of becoming a medical missionary, but I also want to become a pediatric surgeon, it's like pulling me into two places...I'm freaking out!! I want to go to a Christian college/university, but I've always wanted to attend Johns Hopkins ever since I was seven. The best thing that I can do is pray, which I am doing. But I go to college next year! I can't believe it! :) but anyways, just give your insight or advice on anything I have mentioned :)

Hi God'sgurl08,

I can fully appreaciate and understand you're feelings. However may I suggest that this is not a question that you must find an answer for right now. Your first and greatest concern is getting into the college or university of your choice. While you are completing your undergrad requirements you will have ample opportunity to consider what you wish to practice and where you would like to practice.

You say that you've wanted to go to Johns Hopkins ever since you were seven. I complement you for having a goal at a young age. I can say for a certainty that those that have a destination in mind at a youg age are most likely to acheive it. I say that because my oldest son was trying to decide between becoming a doctor or becoming a marine biologist at the age of four. Today he has his Ph.D in microbiology and specializes in marine biolgy. He made up for not getting his M.D. by marrying one.

You have pleanty of time to research exactly what would be best for you. If you have questions or just want to talk, feel free to contact me at any time.

Your friend and brother in Christ,
Doc

Hi once again God'sgurl08,

Heres something else to think about. When anyone makes refferance to mission work, it is usualy thought of as somthing that you must do in another country and far from home. However there is a mission field right "next door" to most of us. Here in the U.S. there are literaly millions of people, in both our urban centers and in depressed rural areas, where people are in desperate need of medical attention. These same people are often also in need of a knowledge of Jesus Christ. The ages include infants, small children, teenagers, young mothers and fathers, Small families, large families, and even the elderly. The needs run from medical help, to spiritual help, to education on healthful Christian living. Every medical specialty is needed, from family medicine (general pratice), to pediatrics (including pediatric surgery), to geriatrics, and everything in between just as in any mission field aroud the world.

May I suggest that when you enter the college or university that you finally decide on, take a look at the free clinics in the surounding areas. See the needs firsthand. God will help you make the right decision in finding the mission field that he wants you in when the time comes.

Also, there are Christian medical shcools here in the U.S. that have programs designed for the aspiring medical missionary.

Once again, if you have questions, just let me know.

Your friend and brother in Christ,
Doc
