Why do Northeastern Catholics seem so politically liberal? With politicians like Ted Kennedy and John Kerry who vote time and again for Abortion on demand, why do Catholics keep voting for these people? How did it get this way? Do they not talk about the sinfulness of abortion and voting for people that support abortion in Church up there?

Confused here in the South.

I think a lot of it has to do with the society....it takes courage to be salt and light when everyone else isn't. Some people just cave in. God makes warriors and saints in such places.

Keep praying for our brethren there, and worldwide...especially in Sudan, where they are being massacred.

Yes he was commended by the pope for protecting Christian lands and buried under the floor in a church.

The Reason many Catholics Are liberal is because Democrats are liberal. Many Catholics are traditionally Democrats because many Catholics where poor immigrants. They vote democrat because there parents did.

There used to be many more Catholic Democrats before Roe vs. Wade. But the abortion issue is the clincher. Catholic social teaching is actually very similar to the Democratic social ideal. Help those who can't help themselves, give to the poor, etc... It is really a beautiful idea that gets lots in the abortion scandal.

The other story that nobody likes to hear about because it is just depressing (to me, at least) is that there is so much politics involved. A Democrat is almost certain to NOT be elected if he speaks out against abortion. That candidate simply will not get the backing of the DNC, and that is a shame. Fortunately, I have read things recently that give me hope! There is a website called democratsforlife.org Check it out if you get a chance...I can't include the link because I am a Newbie!! :o
