Whether you accept or reject supernatural causation or mundane cause-and-effect, it's obvious that there are competing explanations.
The academic superior around here reject cause-and-effect, when it gets in their way of claiming X, Y, or Z didn't happen as documented in the Bible.

Cause-and-effect is okay for discovering gravity, but not good enough for allowing God into the picture.

Religion has no capacity to disprove anything about science, however fatuously the ability may be claimed.
That's why it's so costly when science disproves itself.

Be it as tragic as a whole generation of Thalidomide children, or as "innocent" as Nebraska Man, science makes mistakes.
Estrid said:
Science is pretty good at disproving all manner of beliefs.
And for that, I tip my hat; but when science goes after the Bible, it's overstepping its ground.
Estrid said:
Being a religious belief instead of merely superstitious, say, doesn't grant immunity to disproof.
No argument there.
Estrid said:
We are aware some cannot ever accept they got something wrong.
Science will gladly say they were wrong, as long as they can blame it on their triad of scapegoats: big pharmacy, big management, big government.

There is a national security issue for the USA to the extent that the populace is ignorant, backwards and anti- intellectual. There's really a lot of smart ambitious Asians who are not intellectually crippled by such.
You keep talking like that, and the same thing that happened to England will happen to you.

If I remember the story right, the Parliament tripled the tuition of England's colleges, sparking riots.

So just keep on harping how the world needs smotter people, and you'll subject us all to a fact of life called the Law of Supply and Demand.

Wouldn't it be nice if you got your wish and everyone suddenly decided to get a college education?

The resultant influx of students into college would require a spike in hiring teachers and professors, more and bigger buildings, etc and so on.

Then Supply and Demand would step in and triple our tuition.

Be careful what you whine about, you just might get it.

Nobody can find the "flood" layer,
That's because God cleaned up His mess.

You can get mustard on your dress, and for the rest of that dress' existence, science will be able to find traces of that mustard stain; no matter how many times you wash it.

But if God cleaned that stain up, instead of Gain, you'll never be able to prove you got mustard on that dress.

And for the rest of that dress' existence, science will claim there was no stain.

I've never worn a dress and I don't eat mustard, so there.

Science wouldn't claim there was no stain. Science would, quite rightly, claim there is no evidence of there having been a stain therefore the probability is that there was no stain. Science will not say there was no magic, just that magic is not a likely explanation.

You want your god to be "allowed into the picture?" Bring evidence. It's that simple. We science-types look at the universe. There's not a bit of evidence here that your god exists. You keep claiming it's the cause of things. All you need to do is prove that. Your Bible isn't the proof. It's the claim.

No need for proof, nice as it would be.
There is a need for evidence.

In court one cannot enter into evidence that does not exist.

"Allowing" god is no more reasonable than allowing Bigfoot
or Nessie as a reason for anything.

I wish our benighted posters could explain why they can never understand
why science can't run without data any better than a car
does without gas.

You're right. I tend to use words that are used toward me. You can't prove anything. You can offer overwhelming evidence for it. But gravity could still turn out to be a group of determined fairies just pulling everything down.

I don't really miss Mad Magazine, but it used to be at least somewhat relevant. Parody well done needs some connection to real concerns.
If you went to college in the late 70's, I suggest you take advantage of Social Security.

It amazes me you think this is evidence that your god exists. Either you're sorely lacking in education or you didn't pay attention. This is evidence that CHRISTIANITY exists.

I suppose you think that because there are roadside shacks in Oregon that are dedicated to selling Bigfoot souvenirs that means there's a 10 foot tall ape that exists in Oregon.

You don't know me very well, do you?

You're talking to someone who believes Paul Bunyan was real.

Great. That's very exciting. Back to reality though... you still don't understand evidence.

I know it well enough that I can make mainstream academia deny it.

This stuff you guys deny on principle makes good conversations at church picnics.
