Very simple: Because each of the great religions is the only way FOR ITS PARTICULAR AGE OR TIME.

Unless it's a charity I am very familiar with, I always just say, "No thank you" and keep my hands at my sides (which indicates I will not accept brochures/tracts). No reason to provide any reason for not donating.

If you were uncomfortable with the proselytizing, I think it would be better to have stated that, else he is likely to continue using that approach in the future.

I just want to say I agree with this. Personally, I don't like the idea of a person mixing "Give me money" and "Get saved" messages. Gah.

I wasn't collecting. I said I would give to any charity of your choice. If I could share the gospel with you.

God sharing the gospel with me is quite different than you sharing the gospel with me. If god did it, I'd likely convert.
