Protoprotestant is the name given to hypothetical sects of early Christians that embraced all of the tenets found in Protestantism. It's an attempt at answering the charge that the ideas of Protestantism showed up in the 1500s, rather than having been present in Christian theology from the start.

The Trail of Blood is an example of such an attempt.

The problem with all of the hypotheses is that they always cite gnostic heretic groups that have an extremely strange set of beliefs far beyond what most Protestants consider orthodox today. They point to these groups and say, "look, Sola Scriptura!" They always forget to also say, "look, Manichaean dualism!" or "look, gnostic asceticism!"

I am just a follower of Christ, somebody who is sold out to him. I have forsaken and given up and lost a lot to follow God. Only he knows the deepest inward parts of me and my heart.

Yeah, I think that is what he is trying to say. Well, I will be a heretic if that is what they want to call me. I am kewl with that, they said the same thing about Jesus.

I guess we all can say that to a certain extent, being that most everybody is considered a 'heretic' by another group of people.

You just do not get it do you. The Catholic Church is not the true Church of Christ, Sorry.

It is a known fact of the pagan symbolism and beliefs passed into the church. This is common knowledge. These men for the most part were not even Christians back then.
