If you can teach it as "fact" that Pluto is our 9th planet, you can teach it as fact that God created the earth in six days, albeit in history class, not science.

It wasnt stated as a fact that Pluto was a planet. It was stated that Pluto at that point was classfied as a planet because it appeared to fit the criteria.

With improved understanding this definition has been changed to a more accurate classification. Thats how science works; it updates itself to be as accurate as possible.

He knows that, he just has to play stupid in order to defend creationism as a creationist who denies he's a creationist.

AV, "planet" is just a term for pete's sake. It is simply a designation we place on some objects. Whether or not we call it a planet, a rock or whatever has no influence whatever on the reality of the object.

What is the hangup on a term? The meaning of any word is simply a means of communication and nothing else. Words have no reality of their own outside of agreed on usage. Change in word usage is just something we just have to deal with.

Nothing was changed except word usage.

The key word in my post isn't "planet."

See if you can find it:
If you can teach it as "fact" that Pluto is our 9th planet, you can teach it as fact that God created the earth in six days, albeit in history class, not science.

AV, it is a "fact" that Pluto was labeled as a planet now it is not. It is just a word, a label; why do you go on and on about it?

That it bothers your need for certainty and stability would be my guess.

I am not sure how you equate the definition of a word with the teachings of Christ. Definitions can and often do change, I don't think this is the case the message of Jesus.

No argument there.

My pastor points out that evolutionists don't want the Bible taught anywhere in our schools, because the Bible contradicts it.

Darwin rules from the grave.

Your pastor sounds like a conspiracy theorist.

This is the link to the article: Nobel laureates: ban creationism in Scottish schools | Herald Scotland

As explained in the article, in England and Wales, the teaching of creationism, intelligent design and similar ideas as scientific theories is prohibited in schools.

What are your thoughts on the proposed ban?

Paul says in 2Cor 4 that Satan is the god of this world -- is it any wonder that he wants to ban basic facts about origins along with common sense??

in Christ,

Bob

Its the creationists who are afraid of the teaching of evolution.
We were told to beware of it.

Colossians 2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

The basic facts about where the earth came from are based on our knowledge and evidence of and for gravity, chemistry, and cosmology.

Literally reading a religous mythology and asserting it as true because it's easier to make believe that it is, is not common sense, but rather a complete lack thereof.

Some basic facts:
Gravity is a property of mass that causes it to be attractive to other mass.
The universe is expanding, which is detectable by the redshift of distant objects.
Amino acids can form in a recreated proto-earth environment.
The diversity of life is due to many years of genetic drift, random mutations, and selective pressures.

Other basic facts:
Snakes and donkeys don't talk.
You can't clone a woman from a man, let alone using a rib bone, and even if you could, allowing them to procreate would likely yield disastrous results due to the most extreme form of inbreeding imaginable.
Humanity has never been subject to a world-wide flood.
Resurrection does not happen.

Science goes against the Bible, doesn't it?

Common sense goes against the bible. So, the bible can take a hike.

(edit: In fact, the bible even says thinking for yourself goes against the bible.... It self-admits it's conflict with common sense)

Common sense goes against the bible.
Not hardly.

Mark 12:37b And the common people heard him gladly.

Why do you think scince uses all those fancy Latin words, like lawyers do?

So common sense can agree?

I think not.
