Which translation do you prefer? Some say the mountains. A local flood, which you seem to be proposing, would mean that an ark was not needed.

I prefer the Hebrew word that can mean mountains or high hills. Since no one lived on the high mountains there was no need to flood them. Therefore only the "high hills" needed to be under 22 feet of water.

I'm thinking more of giant lava domes under the sea floor that lift and displace the sea waters.

Ad hoc explanations are just hand waving. The fact that we can't see those today more than refutes that claim.

The video says that, if kangaroos 'managed to get' from the Middle East to Australia over the last 4000 years, we would expect to see fossil evidence between the two points.

I agree.

But none have been found, have they?

So it's quite obvious they didn't 'manage to get' anywhere (that is, on their own).

And if they didn't hop down their on their own, how do you think God got them there?

Hint: Is there any place in the Bible where God teleported anyone anywhere? like in Acts 8?

People lived all over the world. They were not limited to one small area.

Now comes one of my favorite parts of the video.

This land bridge junk.

First of all, notice how Mr. Nye puts up a map of the earth as it exists today?

That is, it has seven continents.

Then, with this map up, he talks about the perplexity of kangaroos getting to Australia.

This is science in action, folks ... stooping to fake maps to make it look like the task was too hard.

In actuality, the earth was still one big supercontinent at the time.

It was broken up in Genesis 10, not Genesis 9.

Noah could have walked to Australia, without getting his feet wet.

In fact, he could have walked to any land point on earth without even seeing the ocean (Panthalassa) on his way.
If the earth was one big supercontinent at the time, then Mount Ararat would not have existed. Mountains are normally considered to have been formed by plates coming into contact with each other.
The Biblical passage identifying Mount Ararat places the Flood narrative within a relatively modern geological era, and certainly not the kind of geology and geography that would have existed at the time of the supercontinent.

By the way, here is the NIV translation, it says "all the high mountains":

17 For forty daysBR)" data-cr="#cen-NIV-177BR" style="box-sizing: border-box; font-size: 0.625em; line-height: 22px; position: relative; vertical-align: top; top: 0px;"> the flood kept coming on the earth, and as the waters increased they lifted the ark high above the earth. 18 The waters rose and increased greatly on the earth, and the ark floated on the surface of the water. 19 They rose greatly on the earth, and all the high mountains under the entire heavens were covered.BS)" data-cr="#cen-NIV-179BS" style="box-sizing: border-box; font-size: 0.625em; line-height: 22px; position: relative; vertical-align: top; top: 0px;"> 20 The waters rose and covered the mountains to a depth of more than fifteen cubits.

Here's the Hebrew word used or both mountains and hills. It's the translators choice. I choose "hills".

KJV Translation Count — Total: 546x
The KJV translates Strong's H2022 in the following manner: mountain (261x), mount (224x), hill (59x), promotion (1x).
Outline of Biblical Usage [?]
  1. hill, mountain, hill country, mount

Thus a global flood was needed.
You're missing the point. We know they lived all over the world because they continued to live all over the world. There's no gap. Native populations have existed continuously all over the world. We aren't all descended from a Jewish family that lived in one place 5,000 years ago.

The lack of definitive evidence doesn't affect my belief at all. I'm proposing ways it might have happened. God does use his creation for his purpose. His idea of "poofing" everyone dead is to drown them in his created water.

But what if the mountains in question weren't formed by plates coming into contact with each other?

Psalm 90:2 Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.

If you read the orogenic passages in the Bible, you'll readily see that mountains and rivers existed at one time in obedience to God's commands.

So we're told.
I would be very interested in hearing your alternative narrative of human migration that allows for a near-extinction event around 3000 BCE. One that accounts for all known civilizations.
