  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

No Compromise at the Border.

I dont want to debate whether or not only republics have good national security. I dont want to debate at all, thats why i withdrew my comment. Take it how you will though.
Your post remains up, FYI.

I'll withdraw my earlier statement. Debating its futile because both sides are sharply and hopelessly divided. When i see what it does to people, it makes me sad.

You know what makes me sad? Intellectual dishonesty.

Like claiming X supports your argument, and then refusing to actually reveal X. And then you ice that cake by claiming we're the broken ones.

We could compromise by agreeing that border security is important and taking the advice of experts on how to mitigate the issues. The wall is nothing more then a distraction.

The politically corrupt armchair experts in Washington or the experts on the ground at the border?

As others have said, walls have been successful in other nations.
So has universal healthcare.

I don't know about you but, I could use a doctor more than a wall in the desert.

My apologies. Perhaps no walls in the world have ever been beneficial for protecting boarders. .

No one is making that argument.

But hey, strawman! Add another to the intellectual dishonesty list.

Nothing is free. Nothing good is ever free. However, i believe the poor should have free healthcare. But if one wants good HC, they better pay for it. Facts of life.

I guessing that you have healthcare and a familiar doctor, right? I have a great healthcare plan but I don't know which doctor I'm going to see at any given appointment, and if any will listen to me...so I stopped making appointments (which should free up their time so they can volunteer at the free clinic across the tracks).

Politics is about solving collective action problems like defining our country or market failures to deliver health care.

Good prioritization demands we pay attention to healthcare first. It's not like immigration is some burning issue that is going to destroy our country. But healthcare is already failing tens of millions.

Ok. I've yet to see an expert on the ground say they want a wall across the entire border.

Much of the border is impassable without great danger; no need for a barrier. Everyone knows this who is paying attention.

I am unaware of any "Experts on the ground". How about we go with people with actual expertise that have studied the issue in depth and have a good understanding of the pros and cons pf various approaches?

If we venture into deep water in an attempt to save someone who keeps swimming away from us, we will all drown. Let them drown I say, save yourself.
