  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

No Compromise at the Border.

The wall is a good plan. It forces immigrants to ports of entry where they can be processed legally.
That's where the immigrants are already.

When fences are erected illegal border crossings move to other unfenced areas. How much more evidence do you need. Did you not see Jim Acosta's silly video?
I didn't see any illegals crossing in the wilderness in Acosta's video. Do you have a time stamp?

What in the world gave you the idea that I'm not aware that SS is a giant Ponzi scheme that was made worse by the government stealing for the principle?

The world is run by experts.
The world is a mess.
...Therefore????
So much wrong with this comment I barely know where to begin. Let's try this:

When did the world start being run as a meritocracy?

Seems to me this vid should be mandatory viewing. Look at the DATE vid has been out there. What is an expert? Those guys in video maybe?

What a great video. It reinforces the absolute need for a wall. Thanks.

Unclear what this means.

I apologize for the perceived insult.

However my position remains firm. Consider my previous example.

Problem: Dirty lakes.
Solution: Bring in science, supported by massive statistical data.
Result: Dirty lakes.

I am an elitist (a snob really).

One problem with experts is that they so often have a hard time agreeing with each other. If you laid all the experts end to end, they still wouldn't reach a 'conclusion'.
I would argue that 95% of the experts in any given field absolutely would reach a conclusion (a consensus is the proper term)

Except that pollution as whole is much better now thanks to experts at say, the EPA (until Trump started dismantling protections in favors of special interests like coal). Take LA for example:

But to the current discussion. If some "experts" say that walls/barriers don't work, why do other "experts" say that they will.
Can you show us a consensus of experts that say the wall will work?

Fifty pound bundles of pot don't usually come through the doors.
If my "doors" you mean legal points of entry like border crossings or seaports, then yes, that's exactly how 99% of illegal drugs come into the country.

How about a consensus of zookeepers, ranchers, and farmers.

Much of the pot and other drugs are carried by mules to reach the border, and only later placed on vehicles once near or safely across.

As long as the preferred method of illegal entry is breaching the border a fence will be needed. There is nothing on the horizon that will change that. The entry of illegal drugs is another issue.
OK then. By your own logic, since the majority of illegal aliens are here because they entered legally then overstayed their visas, and since a border wall will do absolutely nothing to stop the majority of illegal aliens entering the country, therefore a border wall is not necessary and a waste of money.

Speaking directly to this, about 10 years ago, I spent a summer monitoring water quality in Lake Erie, formerly one of the most polluted bodies of water in the world. It's still not perfect, but it's a heck of a lot better compared to the 70s and 80s - at least you can safely swim in the water most of the time. It takes a long time to reverse the damage that we've done, especially when farmers continue to fail to control runoff and fertilizer waste (which is what fuels the algae blooms).

two questions:
1. Do you have any evidence for this claim? Because I've never seen it before.
2. If they're putting the drugs on vehicles before the border, how does a wall stop them?

The border guards (the only people in this mess that aren't politicized; read: have their heads up their you-know-what) want a barrier. Case closed.
Not really

What Happened When A Trump Supporter Challenged Me About the Wall

6. Border patrol agents don’t like concrete or steel walls because they block surveillance capabilities. In other words, they can’t mobilize correctly to meet challenges. So in many ways, a wall makes their job more difficult.

7. Border patrol agents say, “Walls are meaningless without agents and technology to back them up.” Are we prepared to pour countless billions annually — after the wall is built — to create a nearly 2,000 mile, militarized 24-hour surveillance border operation? Because according to patrol agents, that’s the only way a wall would work. Again, are we really, going to use East Germany, a brutal communist state, as our model here?

Different problem. Bailing water out of a sinking boat is one problem. Plugging the leak is another.
If your boat is sinking under the weight of the water already in the boat and the leak is slower than your bailing efforts, you bail the boat out first then plug the leak.

The same way that bailing helps plug the leak.
Bailing water does not help plug the leak.

Then fund what was already approved. The border authorities will decide what best to do with the money.
That's exactly what the Democrats (and the bipartisan CR in December) tried to do. Trump rejected it, remember?

I'm a big fan, but I want a 24/7/365 guarded fence, not a concrete wall.
And we've already shown you that the cost for that will be at least an order of magnitude more than $5B.

There's some truth there. I believe we should all speak English, which is the language of America.
It might be the primary language of the US but it is not the official language of the US so...
