  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

No Compromise at the Border.

$l.6 billion is being used to build it, and Mexicans are already suffering the consequences.

Impact of Trump's wall already felt on Mexican side

From the link,

Rivera remarks that despite Trump's attacks, the migrant caravans have only grown.

"It was never a very valid argument to say a wall would reduce this phenomenon," she says.

"We know that nothing is going to stop migrants from trying to reach the United States."

It should be noted that the wall isn't intended to prevent legitimate immigration. As usual liberal sympathizers are conflating legal and illegal immigration.

I read the article and the headline is misleading. Trump’s wall isn’t built, so how are the effects being felt? And, most of the hardships that are mentioned are attributed (in the article) to Trump closing the border and slowing down processing at legal points of entry.

Suggest you read the article again. The wall you refer to was built two years ago.

But you are correct about one thing: a wall isn't intended to prevent legitimate immigration. Nor will it prevent caravans from arriving at port of entries to apply for asylum.

Trump didn't close the border. The gridlock is because of the sheer number immigrants piled up there.

New fencing is being constructed using the $1.6 billion.

New fencing is being constructed using the $1.6 billion.
In 2018:

Congress approved $1.6 billion this year for border security, which Trump has described as a “down payment” on his wall. That's U.S. tax dollars.

Not all of that $1.6 billion goes toward fences or walls.

The $1.6 billion is intended for general border security measures, which includes new technology along the border and repairs to existing barriers. Only $641 million was dedicated to building 33 miles of new barriers.

Is Trump's border wall being built? Here are the facts

...fyi, that's $19 million per mile. But of course, the cost per mile can vary greatly depending on the terrain, legal cost, etc...

I agree that Trump's wall, even downgraded to a steel slat fence, is too expensive. My idea is much cheaper and just as effective.

Draw benny's at 62, live to 90. Hint: Take care of your health (I have some tips if you're interested).

If you've read it and still hold wrong notions I can't help you.
So, in other words, you still can't provide an example something I am misunderstanding. Why am I not surprised?

I just walked it, I didn't design it.
Since you acknowledge it was ineffective, why should I accept your reasoning as a valid argument for your designs?

You want to rely on someone's inexperienced opinion?
I'm saying your experience does not provide a reliable benchmark for the situation.

No inconsistencies, just fleshing out the plan (it's a work in progress).
Get back to us when you have an actual plan.

You stated your deduction as if it were a credit.
Seriously? You're unable to understand what I'm talking about? Let me make it clear for you: the increase in my standard deduction for this year is less than the combination of credits and deductions that I was able to use last year. Therefore I will be paying more in taxes than last year.

Let's build the wall and see. If I'm wrong I'll apologize all over the place..
And we're out a sizable amount of money that did nothing more than feed this president's ego.

Success frequently comes to those who do things that others insist can't be done.
Success comes far more frequently to those that think and plan before they act.

MexiCANS, not MexiCO. If you can show us how Mexico, (the country) is hurting because of this, please do.

Show me a "liberal sympathizer" who thinks this.

Mexico is hurting, from the presence of illegals, and they will be paying for a wall...on their own southern border. If they had cooperated with us they wouldn't be facing the prospect of thousands of immigrants invading their country, that they can ill afford to care for.

When was that $1.6B allocated? If it's been allocated, why is the government still shut down?

The government is shut down over the $5.6 billion, not the $1.6 billion already being used for the border wall. Didn't you read the link?

The wall is a good plan. It forces immigrants to ports of entry where they can be processed legally. When fences are erected illegal border crossings move to other unfenced areas. How much more evidence do you need. Did you not see Jim Acosta's silly video?

That's usually the most rational. And that's definitely NOT what one would do with $5.6billion when most experts agree it is unworkable and not going to solve the problem.

You do realize that we are in this mess because of the "experts", don't you?
