The New York state legislature's action may reignite a political controversy over gas stoves that heated up earlier this year. That arose after U.S. Consumer Product Safety commissioner Richard Trumka Jr. said in January natural gas stoves are "a hidden hazard" and suggested unsafe products might be banned.

Trumka later walked back the statement saying, "CPSC isn't coming for anyone's gas stoves."

Just like forcing a conversion to electric vehicles, this idea is not well thought out. First of all it is an infringement on the rights of the citizenry. Gas stove cooking is popular, particularly in Asian communities. It is not fair to discriminate. Electric stoves and electric heat are not energy efficient.
Power plants at this time are mostly powered by fossil fuels. Converting fossil fuels into electricity is a waste of power. Which form of energy pollutes the most throughout the whole process is debatable. That debate should take place first. Then it needs to be considered what resources are available in the United States, so that we can once again attain and keep the energy independence we had under President Trump.

Induction stoves are better than gas.

We owned a home in NY with gas heat for 16 years, and it's still standing, presumably with the same gas furnace.

Gas is certainly less than oil heat (in a state where energy prices are high) and electric heat was most expensive of all when we lived there.

And NY doesn't have the best climate for solar heat installations.

Democrats could actually save energy instead of trying to tighten their control on the populace, why don't they lead? John Kerry could pledge to fly commercial flights in the U.S., he and the others from around the world pushing the elimination of fossil fuels could video conference instead of flying their private jets to world conferences. Joe Biden could sell his Cranbrook convertible and his Corvette--real gas guzzlers. Or they could jsut stop driving cars.

Actually, it seems Biden has set an example, from the time he was Senator. Rather than flying or driving to Washington, DC, as Senator, he would take public transportation (Amtrak). As for Kerry, I'm not sure why he'd be a great example, it would be about like using George Bush (who Kerry once ran against) as an example of current Republicans.

John Kerry is our country's first Special Presidential Envoy for Climate.
