  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Excellent. Great examples.

Here's something I took from my other thread, "How Can I know the "god" I Interact With and Hope In Is the Real God?"

Someone commented:
"Well, if you're going to apply the scientific method to this topic (or any topic), you'd have to first acknowledge that there is in fact a "consensus" on the topic of how many "God(s)" there might be. Monotheism has replaced polytheism in terms of the "consensus" among humans. We tend to agree that there is but one God, and there are many "religions" used to describe that single being."

"You seem to be confusing the concept of monotheism and multiple religions, with polytheism, and the concept of multiple Gods. Whatever you're hearing is simply "God", or not, but you don't have multiple "gods" to hear from."

Could these statements be categorized as non sequitur as well?

Yes, I think that's a non sequitur. Applying the scientific method has nothing to do with acknowledging a consensus of opinion.

A person who is without reason, is incapable of reason, and will be stopped short of the whole truth...and even invent their own definitions for things they do not understand. But those who have reason, are equipped to go further.

You seem to be describing someone we are all familiar with.
