  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I knew this would happen with St. Joan of Arc. :(

Shakespeare’s Globe theater is reinventing the story of the French-Catholic heroine, to the dismay of critics.

Shakespeare’s Globe theater is reinventing the story of St. Joan of Arc in an upcoming production called I, Joan, in which the French-Catholic heroine will be portrayed as a non-binary “queer” character who refers to herself with “they/them” pronouns.

The news has prompted a backlash in Catholic circles, with several taking to Twitter to voice their dismay, saying the interpretation detracts from St. Joan of Arc’s heroic life and erases the dignity of womanhood.

The Globe announced its decision Thursday in a tweet:

“Our new play I, Joan shows Joan as a legendary leader who uses the pronouns ‘they/them.’ We are not the first to present Joan in this way, and we will not be the last. We can't wait to share this production with everyone and discover this cultural icon.”

In a statement Friday, the play’s artistic director, Michelle Terry, said, “History has provided countless and wonderful examples of Joan portrayed as a woman. This production is simply offering the possibility of another point of view.”

Terry argued that play adaptations make “anything possible” because “theatres do not deal with ‘historical reality.’”

The play, which is described by the theater as “queer and full of hope,” opens on Aug. 25 and will feature actress Isobel Thom in the leading role. Thom identifies as non-binary.

They will simultaneously hold Joan up as an 'empowered' female and then in the same breath argue that it's okay to depict her as a man.

But what can we expect of modernity? They really can't place themselves in the mind or context of Joan to actually represent her with any kind of fidelity.

Sick.

I was at the Globe Theater about 40 years ago and enjoyed ‘A Midsummers Night Dream’. I will not be going back.

The historical evidence soundly debunks the claim that Joan of Arc was "non-binary", since she always called herself "the maiden" ("la pucelle"), which is feminine beyond any doubt. Eyewitnesses described her as "beautiful and shapely". The idea that she "transgressed gender" is based on a number of misconceptions: her so-called "male clothing" was just the soldier's outfit initially given to her by the troops who escorted her to Chinon. We have their eyewitness descriptions of bringing up the subject and giving her this clothing for practical reasons; and several eyewitnesses at her trial said she continued wearing it in prison so she could keep it "firmly laced and tied" to keep her guards from pulling her clothing off when they tried to rape her. She said she didn't fight in combat, and we know from the records that she didn't lead directly. She was one of numerous female religious visionaries in that era, a role which didn't "transgress" any gender norms.

May they lose money on this ...
So they will tire of doing such things. :|

Well, they claimed with their filth that Jesus was married. Remember that? And that still circulates. My daughter was asking me about what she found online.

It's just twisted.
Women are strong - but if strong they're a man - and men are better at being women anyway...

- and the circles continue.

History’s most powerful women are being ‘reimagined’ as trans.

Joan of Arc was not ‘nonbinary’
Just sad.
:crossrc:

Good came out of her assignment and she was unstoppable per winning so there's that.
But only on behest of winning for a Divine purpose and not as some gender confused role.

I do believe she was not thrilled with the idea at first...

It's an attack on women. It's saying that all of the women who did this wonderful thing in the past were not really women. That they were somehow a man or part man in order to do such things. It's like saying the most powerful black leaders of the past were really white or part white. It's taking credit away from women, and all of the brainwashed sheeple are swallowing it hook, line and sinker.
