  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

That doesn't really help since I don't have human social skills.

I have to believe that you have some, and I definitely believe that you can develop whatever you feel is lacking. You're a person and a human being too, so you have interesting stories, experiences, insights, etc. to share with other people. Don't sell yourself short :) I believe you're complete capable of initiating and maintaining a friendship with a girl, whether it's her or someone else.

Ask those whom I went to high school with.

"Interesting" isn't quite the word I would use.

Why?

I don't really have any experience in this area, so I had to ask.

Last Thursday was my first day of college. I’m in a writing class as writing fiction is one of my favorite hobbies. We had to get in groups for some dumb ice breaker thing. As I talked to the others in my group, I found that one of the girls really likes writing too and gave basically the same answers as I did on the ice breaker questions. We talked a bit more. She asked me what classes I had coming up and I told her. She said she had the same one, but we have them at different times. Then she said—and this is why I’m asking this—that I should change the time of my class to the same as hers.

I’ve never been in a relationship or anything like that before, so I’m not sure if she was just being friendly in what she said or not. Anyone have an opinion? Maybe this is a really dumb question, but as I said, I don’t have any knowledge in this area.

As my friends sometimes say, "she wants to have your babies". Translation: she's into you.

Yeah, but that was awhile ago.

Like I said before, don't sell yourself short. Give yourself some credit. God delights in you for the person He's made you to be, so find rest and confidence in that. I've seen you post on here and you have some good things to say.

Because you can maintain a conversation on here. Now, I know that a conversation where you're typing and have more time to calculate a response is very different than a conversation where you're talking out loud face-to-face, but the components of conversation are the same. I think if you especially wouldn't let yourself get discouraged and would be willing to put yourself out there knowing that you have nothing to lose, you would be able to grow in this area. I have areas that I need to grow in as well, and it requires prayer, finding my worth in Christ alone, a willingness to take risks, and a diligent spirit towards working to reach my goal.

The thought of doing something like that scares me to death. I have a hard enough time talking to people as it is. Asking a girl to lunch? :swoon:

Yeah, I know it can be scarier than being a young Jedi facing Darth Vader with a light saber, but yeah, ask her out. Men don't let fear get in the way from what has to be done.:)

I let fear stop me from doing things all the time. I'm good at it. :D

I don't even know how to ask a girl out. How to phrase it or whatever. Besides, it feels to early. I only talked to her for like five minutes.

You wanna go out sometime?
Are you free (insert day and time here)?
What are you doing (insert day and time here)?
I have an extra ticket to ______, you wanna go with me?
Do you want to grab a cup of coffee/dinner/lunch sometime?

Geez, I couldn't imagine saying that.

I would be more direct, like, "Hey that's really great that you have the same classes as me, I'd like to take you to this great burger place I know on Saturday, would that be cool?"
That's the thing, I don't wanna be direct.
