• CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Jesus is refered to as being from nazerath, however their is no evidence from the time of jesus that this town even existed.

Nazareth is not mentioned even once in the entire Old Testament. The Book of Joshua (19.10,16) – in what it claims is the process of settlement by the tribe of Zebulon in the area – records twelve towns and six villages and yet omits any 'Nazareth' from its list.

The Talmud, although it names 63 Galilean towns, knows nothing of Nazareth, nor does early rabbinic literature.

St Paul knows nothing of 'Nazareth'. Rabbi Solly's epistles (real and fake) mention Jesus 221 times, Nazareth not at all.

No ancient historian or geographer mentions Nazareth. It is first noted at the beginning of the 4th century.

What do you say to this? Yes it did. Or no it probably didnt and was added in later? Or something completely different?

^_^^_^ How is it you have access to the Internet and this website but no access to a simple google search?

FYI It's google.com and all you have to do is type in the word you want to research.

Here is what I found on another site linked to me by google:Nazareth - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As you can see no one doubts Nazareth exists. Well no one except those on the website you got this foolish idea from.

The city exists today and there have been many archaeological digs and finds within the town to indicate that it has been settled for an extensive amount of time.

Its a very small town though and didn't really have any political or strategic importance, so it would be unlikely to get a mention in historical sources. Go look at an atlas and find any small town you like: Gargalianoi, Greece. Search it on Google Maps. Since its in Greece, my guess is that the town has existed for a very, very long time but it doesn't even have a long Wikipedia entry and has likely never been mentioned in historical sources.

Does that mean that Gargalianoi, Greece didn't exist in ancient times? Probably did as a small village, but didn't have any importance so was never mentioned.

It is about time this old chestnut was laid to rest:

BBC News - Jesus-era home found in Nazareth

Besides which, do atheists really really think the gospel writers could have been mistaken about the existence of a place they probably lived within a hundred miles of? It would be a bit like me mistakenly believing that London, 150 miles from where I am sitting, existed when it didn't.

As an atheist I'm sure you've seen the website that carries the articles entitled, "Nazareth Never Existed".

By the way, just as an aside and with respect. Why do atheists attend a forum dedicated to Theology? :)
