Just wondering what others think or would think...

Some people want a Nativity Scene for our church - to set up inside - somewhere near the iconostasis. Good idea? Bad idea?

I think it would be better to set it up outside the sanctuary. I also would be more comfortable with it not being near the iconostasis.

Does anyone's parish set up a Nativity scene during advent?

We talked about having a little nativity play with the kids after Church (in the fellowship hall) once we have our new building in place. Right now we just don't have the room. I see no problem with having a nativity scene somewhere in the Church...just not in the sanctuary or nave. That said, since we have very little room for anything like that, we just have icons of the nativity at this point.

No, but we do have a Christmas Tree in the Narthex.

I have seen Christmas trees but not Nativity scenes...we have the icon anyways

We have a large Christmas tree in the fellowship hall, and yesterday I noticed there is a small Nativity scene set up beneath it.

I'm thinking since we generally don't have statues of Saints in Church ... ?

How about placing greater honour to the icon of the Nativity by framing it with flowers, as one does for Pascha?

We Orthodox are so cool we leave the Nativity scene up all year round

What a magnificent idea! I have never heard or seen it but be the first I say.

Thanks for all the input. Sounds like the idea has been tabled - at least for this year.

We don't need nativity scenes. We have the icon of the Nativity and it is placed in the Church for veneration on the Eve of the Nativity.
