Fact about me: I was once a promising violist. But unfortunately have not picked it up at all for probably five years now. ... And I chose the viola at the start of my instrumental learning over the violin just to feel sooooo different and cooler than the other guys who would be in the school orchestra, thinking that everyone chooses the violin by default but barely anyone knows what the viola is. ^_^

View attachment 311843

Also a fact: .... Yes, I also wore an eye patch all of the time while playing the viola before the school or church audience. :p
Oh, I love the viola so much!!! I would have loved to learn it! I took violin lessons for a few years as a child, but I haven't played it in years!

And an eye patch sounds like a cool look! ^_^

Fact: I am not a morning person
I'm only a morning person when I got nothing to do and finally have a day that I can sleep in, then suddenly I wake up early and can't fall back asleep. :muahah:

I've done a multi-day solo trek in the wilderness above the Arctic Circle.
I dream of doing a multi-day solo trek. I watched the movie with Reese Witherspoon and found inspiration from that. Before I started half marathon training I was doing long walks. I've only known one person who has done something like that and he retired from my workplace and I keep in touch with him for advice and tips. He goes to the Appalachian mountains for solo hiking for a week or so.

Prepare well and study the maps of the area.

I've done several cross-wilderness treks. Often the maps are not 100% accurate and there are "surprises" There is also the local wildlife, not always "friendly", that takes an interest in you.

Having done a few, I can say I appreciate the Biblical stories of both David and Jesus in the wilderness.

I have always dreamed of doing something like this too! Almost every year I go on a week long hiking or camping trip with my siblings and cousins out in the wilderness, although I have never gone solo before. I want so badly to try solo but at the same time as a female I am a bit afraid to do so. I've heard so many scary stories, but perhaps I would be fine if I took extra precautions.

Thanks for the advice! I'm terrible at maps but I've been getting better. Especially the job that I have. I failed Land navigation though when I went to Sergeant school with the Army. But just because I failed at one time doesn't mean that I can't learn from it.

The guy I know said that ticks was his worst enemy. He was not afraid of bears. I'm kind of afraid of snakes... Actually quite a few things. I need to practice just camping on my own first.

But it is my goal to do this someday:)

By the way, how did you decide to go on a solo trek?

sounds like you at least have a start. You could always go on a solo trek with a backpack and map out where you're going both Urban and off-road from wherever you are camping. And just have one of your family members pick you up. I think a mini excursion would give you a small taste of it. And maybe that's all you need:)

It was something I wanted to do to "prove" to myself I could do it. I admit I enjoy the solitude of being 'out there' and hearing nothing but nature and seeing the vast open sky above. It also makes me really appreciate being around the people I care about.

I think those are some of the same reasons I would like to do it. Some years ago when I started doing prayer walks, I found a lot of reflection time and also being other centered. A step away from all the busyness that I can find in the home or other places. Last August was my first time solo camping because the friend that was supposed to go with me had an emergency with her sister passing the day before our trip. I hope you get to do another trip like that. Actually I would like to do something like that with another person before I go solo, but who knows, if I want to go then I will just go. What you did is an accomplishment nevertheless. And I'm sure you have some great memories and stories from that time.

Thank you!!! A mini excursion would be a great idea! I have had a lot of experience in the wilderness, so I'm not too afraid of wildlife or getting lost. I am mostly afraid of meeting a person with bad intentions. :ahem:I have had uncomfortable experiences in the past, although fortunately nothing bad and most of my camping experiences of crossing paths with other humans has been positive experiences, although at the same time I have never been alone. Perhaps doing solo day trips would feel safer for now and I could ease my way into a camping trip in an area I'm comfortable with. :)

Yes it is wise to be safe, we do live in a dangerous world. I think about that too but with all the running that I have done, there's many opportunities that something could have happened. I guess having things with you like mace or some kind of sound alarm or something could help. Anything can happen... And yes I have had some uncomfortable situations like a homeless man trying to follow me. That was some years ago when I was doing a trek from city park to City Park along a Riverside, and I was not familiar with part of the area I was going through. Pray about it and always take the precautions and study your maps like @Sif mentioned.

And maybe it isn't something for you to do by yourself. You could always go to a restaurant and eat by yourself, I considered that very adventurous. I did that for a couple years in my 30s and it was interesting because there were people that came and talked to me like the restaurant owner that I know to this day that has developed many successful restaurants.

The other thing I would suggest is look at Google Earth images. We live in an pretty cool time when we can get satellite images of almost anywhere on the planet. Let people know your projected route. Just be prepared for something to not go as planned.

Hello!

Name a fact about yourself!

Me: I had an interview with a popular TV show and they accepted me. But, I denied them due to a variety of reasons.

Personally met and spoke to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II when I was young.

Peace be to all those in the Body of Christ.
