Why did you start in verse 38? Why not start in verse 37?

I started with verse 38 because Peter's reply starts there and I went to verse 39 because Peter's reply ends there.
'You must repent,' Peter answered, 'and every one of you must be baptised in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise that was made is for you and your children, and for all those who are far away, for all those whom the Lord our God is calling to himself.' (Acts 2:38-39)

And newborn infants can repent? Of what? Pooping their diapers? Oh, wait...it just came to me:

Perhaps we can return to the topic of this thread and end the debate about baptism and other topics.

I gave my list in an earlier post.
Scripture alone
The Eucharist is just a symbol
Baptism is just a symbol
dispensationalism

Ditto. But it didn't last long.

:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

A few others too went by the wayside:
  • TULIP
  • KJV-Mainly ;)
  • Tongues-like-in-my-local-pentecostal-meeting
  • That all too common allergy to Mary
  • Fear of statues in church
  • The belief that the departed faithful know nothing about our earthly journey and cannot or do not pray for us
  • An occasional prophecy about the alleged ministry one will have

Mockery may seem clever to some but it is not clever.

Repentance from traditions which fly directly in the face of the revealed Word of God Almighty is clever to some, but apparently not to all.

How does one 'repent from traditions'? Infant baptism may not line up with your views (or mine), but is it a doctrine one needs to 'repent of'?

You sound that you used to believe what I believe.

I grew up attending Arminian Baptist and an Assembly of God Church, even though my mom grew up attending a Presbyterian Church. My dad has always been of the Arminian/Pentecostal persuasion. While my mom is somewhat of a mixture of those mentioned. So the interpretation and answers to my questions, were answered within those frameworks. I had no reason to question what I had been taught at the time, and I had what we might call a "simple faith". I sometimes miss the conviction, the sensitiveness, the eagerness to do whatever God wanted that I once had for several years after really getting serious with God, after God had called me out of darkness into His glorious light.

Yes, it most certainly is a doctrine which one needs to repent of. Have you read some of the comments on the baptism threads which have been up and running of late? Several posters here apparently equate infant baptism with salvation and nothing could be further from the truth. Do you believe that a false salvation message ought to be repented of? I do and, more importantly, God does, too.

Bunk?!?! LOL...okay pal, yet you follow a theological doctrine that is roughly 500 years old. Too funny!!!!

Actually, he believes that which was taught by Jesus Christ and the Apostles and so do I. Why not join us?

That statement is factually not true, St. Paul and St. Augustine among others prove thus. I understand the emotionalism behind your comments, as emotional comments will often stir up emotional responses.

pharisees believed in their old church too

Ha! Oh brother.

He's already there, in the Church that Christ and the Apostles established 2,000 years ago - unchanged and unperverted.

Name a doctrine that you used to believe in but don't anymore.

Name one that you have thought was biblical but found out it was heretical?
There are many things that I used to believe but don't anymore.
Perhaps they are what is heretical.

Congratulations.

As I was pondering whether or not you were being serious or facetious, I concluded that you were being serious and my brain fell out of my head. As such, I invite you all to continue this conversation without me while I just sit here and slobber all over my keyboard until somebody shows up who can help me...
