That's exactly what the slave owners thought when the north tried to stop them owning slaves, it says in the Bible it's OK to own slaves.

Exodus 21:20
If a man beats his male or female slave with a rod and the slave dies as a direct result, he must be punished, 21 but he is not to be punished if the slave gets up after a day or two, since the slave is his property.

Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. 45 You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property. 46 You can will them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life, but you must not rule over your fellow Israelites ruthlessly.

I see they have changed the wording in the KJV to read like this:
Leviticus Chapter 25

You need to study this a bit more. First of all a "slave" in the Bible was not a slave at all. They were indentured servants with a 7 year contract. The whole time we had slavery in American they knew the difference between indentured and slavery. What we had in the south was actually a muslim practice not a Christian practice. So your just peddling more revisionism. People have a choice if they want to enter into a contract just like people can choose to put themselves into the bondage of sin. "I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave of sin." John 8:34

You need to study this a bit more. There were two types of slaves in the OT. Fellow Hebrews were supposed to be in 7 year contracts, as you said. That did not apply to all slaves. Foreign slaves were slaves for life, and there was even a way laid out in the Bible that allowed slave owner to essentially trick a Hebrew into life long servitude. All h had to do was to "give" a wife to his Hebrew servant when he was working for him. Hopefully he would have children with her. When his term of service was up he could freely leave. But the female slave was still the property of the owner, along with any progeny. The man could declare that he did not want to leave his wife and children and the slave owner would drive a spike through his ear signifying that the man willingly gave up his freedom.
