• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

i can remember my first drink like it was yesterday. i was only young thirteen. i remember my first high like it was yesterday, i was mid thirteen. Over the years things got worse and i drank heavily on weekends, and pot became an everyday thing. I drank at lunch time before school, and when i reached highschool i got high in the parks on lunch break, things seemed mighty fine at the time though, But my adiction for pot led me to steal from my brother and by this time i picked up smoking and began stealing cigerettes from my mother. my father owns a bar in a small town and when i went with my mother to visit him i stole expensive amounts of alchohal. One day i realised that i was a very troubled person and many of the friends i had made
were not my real friends, they were very selfish people who were out to grab all they can get, they did not care what happened to me all they were concerned about was getting high. At this point I was deep into the adiction and all hope was lost for me. I was failing school, and i stole constantly from my mom and I drank alone on weekends. Then one weekend my cousin invited me to oshawa and I attended a messianic service it was awesome it amazed me so much, and then the Rabai spoke with me after the service he said spoke with me and he made me born again that was three weeks ago and since then i havnt givin in to anyof those things, i feel the holy spirit dwell within me.

and that is my story i hope it brings hope to those who are in a simular situation, and if you ever need help dont hesitate id be more then glade to help you out.

MY DEAR BROTHER IN CHRIST,

Thank you for sharing your story of the "experience, strength, and hope" of your deliverance. i could have written almost exactly the same, except, being 63, there is a few more years involved :p . i, too, remember my first drink as if it were yesterday and my first high as if it had happened this morning--even though its been 48 years or so. Scary, huh  !
May the Holy Spirit continue to dwell within you always, blessing you and keeping you CLEAN AND SOBER.

MAY GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS AND KEEP YOU IN HIS LOVING WILL,

ephraimanesti

Good for you, that you have gained your freedom so early in life. It's a real blessing. One that I wish that I'd had. But I chose to continue.I now have my freedom as well, after using booze and drugs virtually my whole adult life.If we keep the temple clean the lord will stay in it.I praise God for your deliverence, and for mine.

Similar circumstances here.

1st drink at 9, Smoking at 13, Pot at 14, Pills at 15.
Went from there.
I was abused in many ways as a kid and I found that drinking and drugs helped me escape for a while from the harsh realities.

I do still have an occasional drink, I have learned to control it and not let it control me. A six pack will last me over a month now.
I am totally clean from any drugs.
Either prescribed or otherwise.
Other than the meds I need for my Bipolar.
Makes life alot easier when your not thinking about the next time you can get high or drunk.
Stay strong and keep up the successes.

I love reading this kind of thread. I myself was an alchoholic, drug addict. But in my case it went on for over 30 years. When I read that a young man like yourself has accepted Jesus Christ and repented of his drug use.I praise God.You are wise and strong.Stay clean and sober and you will go far.
